    Under the Covers, Nissan Stagea.

Stagea ? It's a sort of Skyline station wagon, this 2005 has a familiar V6, earlier models had an RB25, some like my neighbours are AWD. Earlier models very much like a Volvo 850 station wagon. My neighbours was the same colour as my Volvo....I'd see the roof go past from my lounge window ''Hey...

    Under the rocker cover TR4.

Uh, no, not a TR4, maybe a Standard Vanguard...or a Leyland 20 ? Oh, it's another use of this engine, Massey Ferguson, a 135 in this case. the sludge is mainly water, pretty common in engines of this era - someone has blanked off the breather into the rocker cover. Can't clean that up, it'll...

    Jerusalem Artichokes.

Clearing some of our gardens to do a winter planting, we pulled out some tall plants we were wondering what they were...seems they are Jerusalem Artichokes. Have yet to find anything palatable to do with them.

    Zero zero.

No new cases for 17 days, and no current cases. Back to near normal tomorrow. Go early, go hard - it has appeared to be working so far.

It was a rocky road for the long lived London Taxi.

    Axle Stands.

In the US they call them jack stands for some reason. We call them axles stands, because after you have jacked the vehicle up, you put the stands under the axles....when cars had axles that is. There could be another reason they are called axles stands - when they are made from axles ! this was...

    Considerate customer.

I'm doing a clutch on this Toyota Dyna 4x4, and the customer removed the deck for us. That saved me a lot of extra work, and him extra money.

Trekka, the only car made in New Zealand.

This is a rare find, a road test of a Trekka. This guy has been in NZ for 3 months, driving around, finding old cars to check out, museums etc. i'll leave it with you, he has most of the facts right, and his pronunciation getting there too.

    Eureka, I'm back.

Oh dear, where to start, my wild ride of employment. 1970 to 1990, 20 years, and 20 jobs, all as a mechanic. But we won't go there, I'll just go over where I've been since I sold the shop I owned for 11 years, in 2007. I've always had motorcycles, and have worked as a motorcycle mechanic, so...

    The Forgotten World Highway.

I've watched some of this guys YouTube videos before, he mainly does tests of mostly classic British cars, and other stuff. He's been in NZ recently, and is doing tests on the weird cars we have here...and other stuff he finds along the way. Today he posts up his trip across the North Island...

    Red Zone to Green Zone.

An interesting article on what has happened to the land in Christchurch now considered not fit to live on. Good before and after shots, what happens to housing areas when humans leave. https://interactives.stuff.co.nz/2019/09/christchurch-red-zone-to-green/

    '60's Castrol.

I don't remember what grade of oils we used way back, unlike the OCD types here I recorded nothing. So interesting to see this ad for Castrol oils. I remember they had a sweet smell, and engines running Castrol had a coloured coating, not really cast as shellac, but you sure could tell a Castrol...

    Whoa there !

A bit of drama on today's ride. I normally set out in the morning, but there was heavy fog and temps in the single digits C, I knew it would fine up to a clear day and temps in the mid teens, so went for my morning walk around the lake...and got tangled up in the half marathon. Obviously not a...

    Klondyke Rd.

It's Easter, and I'm not going anywhere but local on Friday and Monday, rain on Sunday, so Saturday is my ride day. It needs to be back roads, and I take the backest of back roads. Klondyke Rd runs out to Port Waikato, where the Waikato River meets the see, it is a back road in the hills, high...

    '65 Mini.

Got to delve into the archives of my brain for this one, a 1965 Mini. Non original powerplant, maybe 1,000cc and rod shift, inner CV's...but it's just been through a cert and not picked up, so I'll just play the old guy excuse. Play in all the ball joints, the young guys wouldn't know you can...

    Tough As....

I changed the oil on this today...and was told the camchain might need adjustment as it was a bit rattly. I doubt if there would be 20mm there. Runs great now....
