    Lowes: Craftsman 11pc 3/8 socket set $15.57

Price does NOT show up online but I found the sale in store. Your choice 10-19mm metric or similar sizes in SAE. Metric item link, my receipt item number is 1049387. They had bigger sets on sale as well but IMO those are stupid with a bunch of allen keys and screwdriver bits. Ratchet is 72...

Check Amazon Warehouse when buying brakes (and more?)

This is at least the fourth time I've gotten brake parts from Amazon Warehouse and it's worked well every time. The worst case is I get a shopworn box. The parts are always new, though described as "used". Who buys used brakes? The savvy shopper, I guess. Got a PAIR of coated premium rotors...

How to buy a car on Facebook Marketplace

This topic keeps coming up and I just threaded the needle on a purchase, beating other buyers to the punch. Thought I'd retract personal information and post the message chain that led to my success. The ad was an hour old when I replied. It potentially spends some of that time in some queue...

    BITOG is officially dull

So on another social media platform there's a hysterical group of mundanity. Some of you may enjoy it. One of you may have even started this. This rolled through my feed. And, yes, BITOG is social media.

From Reuters: Feb 7 (Reuters) - Major tire manufacturers including Pirelli, Continental, Michelin, and Nokian were sued on Wednesday in U.S. federal court for alleged price-fixing, days after European Union competition authorities announced an investigation into a possible cartel. The lawsuit...

    My 75k OE air filter

Looks fine! From my 21 Prius Prime. Of note, I estimate I used electricity about 20% of the time. Its "lifetime achievement" MPG is 80. I get salt dust in winter and pollen in spring. I take my foot off the gas if I'm coasting into a particularly nasty dust cloud, LOL. Replaced it with an...

Got a brake fluid moisture tester

These things are two bucks on ebay! Here's my review. -- It does something resembling working, based on what I know about my vehicles. It has LEDs in green for zero percent, amber for 1 & 2 percent, and red for 3 and 4+ percent, labelled "bad." -- 91 F150, did rear brake lines, bled, but...

Rebuilt my PCM at home for three bucks

So my 91 F150 had a phantom miss, particularly when cold and just going off idle. It felt like all 8 cylinders dropping out for a split second. I tried a rebuilt distributor with the old (NAPA) TFI module, then a new TFI module. No better. The CEL would blink in concert with the dropouts...

Listen, all to my tale of woe, changing ATF

91 F150, 130k miles, got it a couple months ago, still setting baselines. Rockauto had a tranny filter kit for this truck and it E40D for $3 on clearance. I got it with some other stuff to save on shipping and said, well, we'll do this on a nice day. Also had ~10 quarts of leftover generic ATF...

Advance Auto doing general clearance, parts for 30-year old cars

Fixing up my 91 F150 with "old" small block 351, I'm in amazing luck with my B&M AAs and clearances, which also show up in online pricing. Making this its own thread, inspired by the car-care clearance thread. Wonder if they're having financial issues and need to have a blowout sale. Examples...

    Traveller 85w140 found at Walmart

Strange times, guys! My Walmart is pretty picked over for gear oil, saw some Valvoline full syn 75w90 in the squeeze pouches, and this, and that's about it. Traveller 85w140, a hair under five bucks, on the shelf. Even reads "exclusively for Tractor Supply" on the back. No price tag, but...

Price out Home Depot for your car parts

Seriously. Needed a Bando 6pk2375 belt. Google-shopped it. HD- $13.62 with free shipping to a store or my house, NO MINIMUM. Amazon-- $13.62, but you need Prime or a $35 minimum. Rock: $13.57 but with $4.99 shipping Walmart: $22ish It seems stupid, but HD may be trying to get in on the "one...

    quiet belt for 91 F150

Loaded 351w with AC, PS, smog pump. Size 935K6. Belt chirps. Is a brand new Dayco. Tensioner is also a new Dayco. Sprayed water on it, it stopped, so it's not an accessory bearing. Chirping comes from alt/ tensioner area up top but those pulleys are tight and spin quietly. Alignment looks good...

This cracked tire still held air

The spare from my 91 F150. 2004 date code. Also dismounted a tire from 1999, but that was in better shape. Some of you guys remain concerned about "little" cracks, LOL.

They can go ahead and strike-- I got my truck.

Well I've been on the hunt for a while now. My pandemic-era beater Silverado runs mint but is nickel and diming me. EVAP issues. Funky gauges that go berzerk. Soft rocker panels. Awful spray-paint job. Generic TPMS sensors going out (this one is my fault). I think I got it to hold its antifreeze...
