    Greenfilter or K&N

I run a Green in my 03 Dodge diesel. I sure notice the difference when I run a paper filter while the Green is drying after cleaning. It feels like the truck is in low gear. I don't get any better mileage but the excessive vacuum poppet indicator on the filter box never needs reseting with the...

    MTBE

MTBE does not degrade in water or easily bond with a water molecule therefore it is not soluble in water. It does not form a solution, it remains basically intact when mixed with water. I'm a bit biased towards MTBE as two members of my family worked at a MTBE manufacturing facility so I get the...

    MTBE

MTBE was banned because it was showing up in ground water samples. MTBE is not soluble in water and is very cheap and easy to detect in water therefore it was being found quickly and cheaply. This was not due to auto emissions but rather to leaky storage tanks. So rather than have the oil...

    I just realized it's impossible...

I like motor oils and filters too. But my dads a farmer so anything that gets stored out there gets used. Petro-Canada bulk had 5 gallon pails (20L) of their Duron Synthetic 5W40 on sale last year for less than $100.00 CDN a pail. I purchased six pails and got only one oil change out of it all...

    Pennsylvania Grade Oil

My experience with a well known paraffinic based oil is from an old company truck . My boss at the time would use nothing but this oil and as a new employee it was my job to service the trucks. The 10w30 oil would drain out as thin as water then in big sludgy lumps. this was back in the late...

Re-refined oil - Canada vs. US observations

I have worked at a plant that turned used motor oil into heating oil and there is a plant here that re-refines used motor oil into re-useable refinery feedstock and I have seen the enviro-friendly "GREEN " labelled re-refined motor oils as well. But you do get what you pay for in a motor oil and...

how are baldwin and motorcraft fitlers?

I used a Baldwin on my wifes old Dodge Shadow with a 2.5l Turbo. The Baldwin seemed to keep the oil cleaner longer but the new Fram Tough Guards with the new synthetic filter media and screened bypass seem pretty good as well. I don't think you can go wrong with a quality name brand filter.

To all of the light pickup owners. Why did u choose your PSD, Cummins, or Duramax?

I purchased an 03 Dodge 3500 SLT loaded and am very happy with it. I picked it over Ford and GMC for the ease of maintenance and better fuel economy. This year Cummins dumped the exhaust reciculation in favour of an electronically controlled fuel pump and waste gate on the turbo. They pre-inject...

Engine flush and total cleaning tips.

Thanks guys I'll be flushing the engine next weekend and giving the unit the once over. I'm going to be using Mobil 1 5W30 and a Baldwinn filter after everything is cleaned. I think I'll even try one of the new Amsoil blue cleanable synthetyic/cellulose paper air filters.

Engine flush and total cleaning tips.

I just picked up an 03 Expedition with 73000 Kms / 45000 miles and would love any info on cleaning the motor inside and out. And touching up a few paint chips on the rear bumper. What products make a motor look new?

    Baldwin Oil Filters

As soon as I finished sending the reply I new I screwed up. Hastings and Baldwin are one and Donaldson is not related to them. Sorry for the mix-up. I am going to try a Donaldson extended drain oil filter though. They look really good.

    Baldwin Oil Filters

I run only Fleetguard or Baldwin filters in my truck and have noticed that Baldwin and Donaldson are made in the same building. All are excellent filter choices. Check out Baldwinfilters.com and they have an excellent cross reference guide with specs. and pictures of the filters. Very informative.

    Lead in 7.3l PSD?

I clarified the uses of mix and tranny fluid with the Cummins tech. He stated that when they get called to bring in a disabled big rig and its a fuel sysytem related problem they add two qurts of mix oil and up to one galon of tranny fluid if there are injector problems. The mix is a very...

    Diesel synthetics

Hello D-Roc, I was reading that the 05 Cummins does not re-circulate the exhaust gas to lower emmisions but uses electronically controlled fuel pumps and waste gate on the turbo plus pre-injects a small amount of fuel on the compression stroke to lower exhaust gas temps and engine noise. This...

    Diesel synthetics

Hello D-Roc, Wal-Mart in Edmonton now carries 0W40 XD3 synthetic which is probably pretty good, Petro-Canada Bulk stations carry a full range of sythetic diesel oils incuding 5W40 HD synthetic which the Deere tech recommended to use in my dads new tractor. I run the Delvac 1 5W40 in my 03...

Bardahl 1 ingredient.....what is it and what does it do?

I don't know if lead or sulfur compunds absorbing into a metal surface can really eliminate a dry start or do much of anything other than change the characteristics of a machined and possibly factory coated surface. Sulfur does cause metal embrittlement in realatively low PPM levels and lead...

    Lead in 7.3l PSD?

Use a little 2 stroke oil and tranny fluid as a very effective injector cleaner and lube with no ill effects on bearings and engine parts. Talk to your mechanic and see if he agrees. My Cummins tech. is who put me on to this. My truck is too new for an injector clean but I have tried the 2 sroke...
