No they are not. But I understand not all dealers follow the standard.

    Dealership oils

One Toyota dealer in my area used a bad Pennzoil(thats what he told me) that caused severe sludge at 5k miles. The sludge caused the timing chain to elongate and throw a light. The dealer tells me it was my fault for not changing oil at 3k? Mobil 1 you say? The other Toyota dealer where I...

    Dealership oils

Mobil is the blender for Toyota. Toyota probably uses its own recipe for the oil given its knowledge of the composition of the metals and alloys used in its engines. But for the most part should be the same as any other good oils. My Toyota dealer said "Pennzoil Synthetic Blend". But looking...

The new Supertech 9972 (Toyota cartridge filter) is rather impressive

Could be an old review. But I was just curious about the filter membrane type and color rather than the model itself. I gather the white cotton type one is bad and the brown thick filter type is good?

    SuperTech MP10158 For Toyota 4Runner

I also use it to haul stuff like bags of mulch or fertilizer for my yard and big stuff which won't fit in a car. So it's utilitarian use was also a factor. But I am thinking of a Subaru Forester which can do the same and be easy on the gas. Forgot to say I used to drive a VW Passat. Had a back...

    SuperTech MP10158 For Toyota 4Runner

Yes, the engine is clean and has had regular 5k oil changes + filter. Also have a magnetic drain plug installed last time. Will know if it picked anything up when I do the oil change this time.

    SuperTech MP10158 For Toyota 4Runner

You know I feel stupid. This whole thing started because I was under the impression that the recommended oil changes are at 5k.I have conditioned myself to do it at 5k and assumed the manual stated the same. Now I realize it is indeed 10k. Which means the OEM filter will last for 10k and I...

    SuperTech MP10158 For Toyota 4Runner

My old 2007 had filter on the top and was easy. Didn't realize or think about the 5th gen 4Runner and its oil changing procedures when I bought one. Most importantly I needed reliability and body on frame vehicle for ride comfort even if I am not off-roading. Roads around here in the country can...

The new Supertech 9972 (Toyota cartridge filter) is rather impressive

This is a quote from Walmart reviews and its for a different filter model I must admit. "First let me start by saying, I'm not a Walmart hater. I think Walmart does a good job of providing quality products at affordable costs. This review is not critical of Walmart, but a warning that something...

The new Supertech 9972 (Toyota cartridge filter) is rather impressive

I know this is an old thread, but I am evaluating the same now. But the filter you have, has bad reviews on the Walmart site. The compressed cotton kinda fiber seems to disintegrate after a while. But the filter made later which are brown in color are sturdier and probably made of some synthetic...

    SuperTech MP10158 For Toyota 4Runner

You have a lift? Thats been a dream of mine. Didn't realize 5k oil changes are not mandatory. I thought my manual said that. I will double check. My driving is mundane highway driving to and from work and local shopping, that's it. Thanks for the info.

    SuperTech MP10158 For Toyota 4Runner

Thanks for the links. I did search the threads for this particular filter and 4runner before I opened a thread. But I will check out those links. I guess I will have to get some jack stands and try to do it in my garage once my hand heals. And I have decided to just return the filters and stick...

    SuperTech MP10158 For Toyota 4Runner

Both. I will post some pics shortly. I believe we should change the oil filter at every oil change. But I hurt my right hand recently and it's hard to do any mechanical work to raise the vehicle and get the skid plate etc. So, I thought I could use the oil suction pump and do the oil filter...

    SuperTech MP10158 For Toyota 4Runner

I bought a couple of these given their 20k rating. I change oil religiously every 5k. The reason I bought this is to see if I could change the oil filter every other oil change (10k total miles) as I have a suction pump for the oil, and it saves me the hassle of removing the skid plate and all...

    Best Brand of Gasoline

I watched one of those videos from MotorOilGeek where he mentioned that gasoline in Europe has better additives and detergents compared to the US where the additives are weak and to always look for additives for the gasoline and not the engine oil. Having said that, I exclusively use top tier...

    SeaFoam to the rescue

FYI, Home Depot has 1 gallon seafoam on sale for $19.97. I got a couple of them as I use them regularly as well. It's not listed on their website, but its available in the section near lawnmower oils and parts. Plus the Honda 10W 30 for small engine oil is also on sale for $6.97 /Quart which...

15W-40 instead of SAE 30 or 10W 30 for lawn and riding mowers.

I made the leap to the 15W-40 to test as I have never used that oil before. And yes, the exhaust did sound different. Never heard of different oils and engine sound correlation. Pay attention next time.
