Can you even buy a "bad" oil anymore? Even cheap syn is great!

For most regular passenger cars being daily driven on public roads, the only thing you really need to worry about is selecting the correct viscosity and spec for your vehicle. Keep the oil clean with whatever oil change interval achieves that for your climate and driving conditions and your...

What is your current favorite oil filter to use?

Wix. I work in a parts store that sells them and having the staff discount on them is nice. Even paying retail i'd probably still buy them. Having cut open a wix and comparing to the OE filter for my truck, the wix was the clear superior filter.

    Motorcraft FL820S cut open

There was some here and there. Not difficult at all. 3,000 miles or five months worth of cold-starting in -20 to -40 degree mornings with 2-5 min of warm up time and leaving it running if i'm making a quick stop somewhere. Typical winter in Saskatchewan. I'm not sure if the cold starts are...

    Service champ WPH48 2012 5.7 Hemi

buddy runs the local quick lube and they use these filters. Nothing wrong with them as far as I can tell.

    Motorcraft FL820S cut open

This was on my 2001 Ford Ranger 4.0L V6. Ran for 5,000km with liqui moly 0W30 special tec. Saw lots of cold starts and a lot of warm-up time. Filter was bought from the parts counter at my local ford dealer last october. Not as bad as the last motorcraft filter i had on my truck. The filter...

    Post your latest oil change

Its spring time and oil change time for the 4L ranger. Last oil change was 5,000km ago with lots of -35C cold starts and lots of idle time. Out: 5L liqui moly 0w30 special tec and a motorcraft fl820s In: 5l castrol edge 5w30 and a wix 51372

Reviving a 71 C10! Curious about suitable oils.

Pretty well any modern synthetic blend 10w30 will be great for it.

The truth about oil change intervals and analysis

Was he specifically talking about his performance engines that he builds for customers? Or just a general statement for the average joe with a regular daily driver? Context is important.

The truth about oil change intervals and analysis

Probably whatever his shop suggests? It wouldn't be in his best interest to suggest something that would risk his warranty coverage...

    Oil is Oil

I think i have seen if not the same video, a similar video. Now would that engine damage have been a consequence of using an inferior oil, or going too long on the oil change intervals? Maybe both? If you are going to go 10,000+ miles on an oil change, then you better have done your homework on...

The truth about oil change intervals and analysis

To everyone balking at what was said about 3,000 mile oil changes-all that was was him saying if he builds you an engine, it comes with a warranty but you must do 3,000 mile oil changes. Basically an insurance policy against negectful owners. Gotta love the internet...a guy with 30+ years of...

    Oil is Oil

I can't really argue any of that. My question is with all of that being said, will that realistically amount to any bit of difference in terms of engine longevity? If i buy a brand new car that requires dexos1 0w20 and from day one I religiously do 5,000 mile oil changes using dexos1 0w20...

    Oil is Oil

I guess just to add the caveat: "oil is oil...as long as it meets the requirements/spec of your engine" I wouldn't suggest using a conventional 10w30 in your vw jetta diesel. Now if you have to choose between a few different brands of 5w40 full synthetic that all have the vw 502 00...

Post your latest oil purchase or even filter.

Filter sale at work, so i picked up a filter for my ranger, and two for my wife's rav4...to add to the stockpile.

    Long OCI

People can do what they like with their cars, but to me doing an extra oil change (or two) per year in the grand scheme of things is not anything to fuss over. I'd rather keep cheap and clean oil in my truck than dirty and expensive oil. There was a thread a while ago where someone was asking...

    0w-8 has gone mainstream. M1 AFE 0w-8.

I guess it depends on where you live. Quite a few people have toyotas where i am and the local wal mart and canadian tire both always have mobil1 0w16 on the shelves. Canadian tire also has castrol 0w16. People seem to be buying it...albeit maybe its not as big of a seller as 0w20 or 5w30, but...

Will frequent oil changes compensate for bad oil?

There really isn't any such thing as "bad" oil. As long as it meets the requirement/spec of your vehicle then it is good. As everyone is saying, you can probably get away with a longer service duration, but you do no harm whatsoever by changing it a little bit earlier than needed. If it makes...
