    Which Would You Use??

I have two VW Diesels (listed in sig). I have been running Mobil 1 Formula M 5W-40 low SAPS oil in the '09 for the last 82,000 miles. Being in Houston, I figure the slightly higher HTHS can't hurt, and all other critical parameters (really, mostly just the SA) are equivalent to the ESP 5W-30...

    Daughter in Fender Bender Today

She has my '91 240 up at school. Guy with a jacked up P/U ran into her while she was at a stop sign in the apartment complex parking lot! No pics from her yet...I am going to drive the 75 miles tomorrow am to see the car. She says the only broken part she can find is the DS turn signal lens...

    Grrrrrrr.......Sienna Woes

My '98 Sienna runs great at 228k miles. A/C still works fine, cruise stem busted loose recently...but not a big deal on a commuter. Well, now my airbag light is on, and I have an O2 sensor CEL. Either light will kill the annual inspection coming up in October. Fixing both will likely cost...

    Saw a Carrera GT Today

Came out of the Dr's office and there it was, parked, looking almost like the Batmobile. Holy cow, those things are BA. Came home and watched the Top Gear review on Youtube. I think I am in love. Tim

    3.0 V6 Toyota Sludge Monster

This Toyota Sienna has 226,300 miles. Owned by me since new. Needed to replace the valve cover gasket, as it was leaking too much to put up with (started to get on the exhaust and stink!). I have pics, if anyone wants a peek! Tim

    Fedor is The Man!

This guy fights way beyond his size and appearance. At 33, he can't possibly keep this up for too much longer...can he?

Just Finished a Week-Long Criminal Trial

I was Jury Foreman for a sexual assualt of a minor under 14 case. Had never been called to jury duty in my 52 years, let alone served. I am surprised at how this wiped me out. Very stressful stuff! Certainly learned a lot.... I don't know how anyone survives a month long or longer trial...

Packers at Vikings - Monday Night

I was born and raised in Wisconsin. Grew up in the 60's watching the Lombardi Pack win the first two Super Bowls. Brett Favre has been my favorite football player since at least '94. My name for the Vikings has been "The Purple Pansies". I've hated them for years. I feel schizo about this...

    Oh my! $1.889 Diesel

Just drove past the Chevron at Eldridge Parkway and FM 529 in NW Houston. $1.889...could not believe my eyes. Of course, I just filled up yesterday at a Conoco near the office...$2.399. Oh well, it's only $7....

    Medal Disparity at Olympics

I was looking at the medal totals this morning an something really jumped out at me. Australia - 20 million people, 29 medals. India - 1.1 billion people, 1 medal. Amazing how different cultures will produce different results in different arenas (pun intended). About the only thing more...

Where to get Mobil 1 ESP?

Has anyone found a local retailer for ESP (especially in Texas)? Normally, I'd stock up from AV Lube, but at $9/quart, I don't want to be doing too much stocking! Gotta watch the working capital!! :)

    Houston Diesel Drivers

I bought biodiesel from American Greenfuels today (610 at S. Wayside) and the price was $2.79...about $0.30/gal less than dino diesel. I have run several hundred gallons of their fuel through my Mercedes and it loves the stuff! Go get some!

    Blackstone Question

Did Blackstone always send their analysis kits out free, and then invoice after the sample was sent in? I had several Oil Analyzers and Blackstone kits and have been using them up over the past couple years. I know the Oil Analyzers were prepaid and I thought the Blackstone that I had were...

    Need Recommendation for BMW M5

Car will be driven in Rochester, NY 6 miles each way. Will be garaged overnight, but not during the day. My brother recently transferred to Rochester and thought about selling the car as it will be rather ill-suited for short commutes in snowy Rochester. But the car suffered much of its...

    Mercedes Confused, Too (re: viscosity)

The oil recommendation chart in the owner's manual for my 300SD shows 10W-30 good for -4 to 50F. It shows 5W-30 good for temps no higher that 14F No wonder the general public is utterly confused...reading nonsense like that. Tim

Help pick an oil for my 2 Red Blocks

I recently picked up two Volvos (see sig). They will allow me to keep miles off my prisine '83 Mercedes and will be used for commuting (13 miles each way) and general running around duty (few long trips, if any). Plus my 17 year old daughter is driving now, so the extra car will come in handy...

    Yikes! Headgasket time.....

I was doing some routine stuff on the Sienna today (tranny fluid and rotating the tires). During my normal scanning around I noticed the coolant overflow was about a half inch below full and looked "dirty". Popped the cap and looked inside...slight oil film on top and coolant was seriously...
