High oil temp while towing: need more PAO/Ester, or more viscosity?

2017 Silverado 5.3 towing 7.5k on a routine basis now. Coolant temps hold at 207, then up to 215-220 until the fans pull it back to 207. I notice when I stop, the oil psi drops to <20 so the oil temp is definitely warm, but no gauge for accurate measurement oil temp measurement though. My...

    Airline Fleet/Management in a crisis

ATC comment: Our daily traffic is down ~60% (enroute center in the midwest). Overnights shifts are still normally busy because of FDX & UPS cargo demand. Also odd to see everybody up at their max ceilings. 737-900s at FL410 defies all logic. Hopeful for a speedy recovery for the industry and...

All the Private Label Brands Warren Distribution Makes, If You're Interested

It's been posted before but I'll say it again. The fact that all of these oils meet D1G2 specifications is nothing to scoff at. D1G2 requires a predetermined matrix mix of 75% or more Grp III and at max 25% Grp II+ base oils and then combined with an already pre-approved additive pack from...

GM dealer oil change: Who makes their oil?

Several local dealerships around here were owned by Hendrick Auto Group and specifically used Valvoline per their contractual agreement. The dealership nearest me says they have a specific distributor and use bulk Dexos oils from whoever that distributor delivers to them. They also have Mobil...

2019 200 hp Mercury Outboard Oil

I'm going against the grain and saying just stay with 25w40 under warranty. Mercury has outstanding R&D and blends some of the best marine oils on the market. Quicksilver 25w40 gallon jugs can be had for less than $25. Out of warranty, do whatever knocks your socks off.

Pennzoil Launches Four New Motor Oils

I'm confused from a retailer standpoint. Are retailers supposed to make 4 times as much room on the shelves for this now? It will end up cannibalizing sales of PP/PUP and will also lead to decreased availability of all products across the board at any given retailer. My current Walmart already...

Pennzoil Platinum HM 5w20 15 Jeep GC 3.6L

The fuel is nothing to worry about. Flashpoint still good, viscosity still good, wear still low. I'd say the oil life monitor is spot on. I love those Pentastar motors. One of the best engines they have ever produced.

    Specs of Dexos1G2 vs SN+

D1G2 is absolutely a better oil than SN+ in terms of deposits and wear. How D1G2 stacks up against GF-6 remains to be seen. But as previously mentioned, whether you agree with GM or not on the business aspect of Dexos royalties, you have to agree they have pushed the oil industry to do better...

    15 camaro 3.6 oil

I went to PP 0w-20 in our Silverado 5.3 DI for 2 OCIs (~6k each) and it began consuming about 1/3 quart every 1.5-2k miles. Never burned a drop of PP in the Jeep 3.6 Pentastar. Currently running Mobil 1 in the Silverado to see if consumption changes. Some engines just don't like certain oils.

Why no love for M1 gear oils?

Searching the threads I see lots of negativity towards M1 gear oils (not Delvac). Anybody care to shed some light? Getting ready to change my Silverado again w/ G80 locker and already purchased M1 75w90 for the job.

Best detergent oil for rings currently available

GM 5.3 AFM just started consuming oil ~30k miles. Need to run a few short OCIs with a high detergent oil to clean ring packs and also disabling AFM as we speak. What's the consensus on the most aggressive cleaning oil available? Amsoil SS, PUP, M1EP/AP? Has to be available in 0w-20 flavor. Thanks.

1/2 ton diff change interval, your recomemdation?

Within the first 5k is important. After that every 100k is fine. As stated, lots of 250-300k axles in the junkyard still with the factory fill. If you were pulling at max gross a lot, then a shorter interval may be warranted. I pull a bass boat several days a week and run 100k on SVG. Always...
