Back in the day, what was your dad's go to oil?

Valvoline 10w40. Old man would by several cases at once when it was on sale. Gear oil, grease always Valvoline. He wouldn't even consider another brand.

    1990 Ford F-150

Meep is right about the rubber bits, but rust can be an issue as well. I had an 88 F150 4x4 for 7 years. Basically same truck minus 4WD. Very reliable mechanically. On the Electric side, windshield wiper switch, dimmer switch, and light switch went out...same problems I had on a 71 and two 78...

Purolator Classic L22500 4K miles (Cut Open)

That looks a lot better than an unused L14477 I took apart a few days ago. 2015 build code and it had the wide spacing on each side of the seem where most of the tears are. Thanks for posting the pictures.

The local tire shop sells a lot of Hercules Tires and keeps the Uniroyal RS20 G rated in stock. Never used Hercules but have used Dean which is also a Cooper brand and they worked well on a 1971 F350 Chasis Mount Camper. I'll price the Hercules against the uniroyal. Thanks for the input, the...

    old Purolator Filters

Torn 820s? Think I'm going to stick with FU/Amsoil filters for 10K OCI and Wix for 5K OCI.

G rated would give a better variability to adjust for weight/mileage. Do you use the the Hankkok AH11s?

    old Purolator Filters

Yes I have these filters because of hoarding, i.e. Stocking up when found with a lowered sale price. Did the same thing when Amsoil had their free shipping promotion. Being that I'm not comfortable with going over 10K OCI yet, maybe the WIX is a better idea than using EA filters.. They...

    Motor home tires

Rear Tires on a 2004 Ford F53 20,500 GVWR have a manufacturing date of 4203. These are the original Goodyear tires that came from the factory. Over 36K on tires and only sign of wear is a 1" superficial sidewall crack on right rear exterior tire. Front tires are new. Being over 13 years old on...

    old Purolator Filters

Have two old Purolator Classic filters, L14477 and L14612. They fit a Scion XB and a Subaru Forester. The Forester has been running Amsoil or FU filters with 10k OCI, Scion same until last change. Is the risk of tearing too much to use them for a 5K OCI? Should I throw them out?

Valvoline synthetic vs Mobil 1 75w140

Exactly as long as you buy the Limited Slip versions. If you buy the standard versions you have to add friction modifier. The old man taught me to avoid the dealer at all costs. Of course nowadays friction modifier is easy to find.
