Its called over-engineering and tight tolerances.
The MaxLife Dex/Merc (full syn) I just put in my expedition had a really strong sulphur smell to it. I'm not too worried about it...

+1. Electric demo hammers work great. I used one on my shower demo. Complete removal of the tile, concrete backer and drywall.
Check this out....so my shower used to be a tub. Some douche bag...

I've been trying teach this to my wife for a while. As the other married guys have guessed, no luck so far.

What's a "tacker"...
I know this isn't much help, but I've got Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo2 tires on my Expedition and love them. They performed very well in the rain a few weeks ago. Just took them offroading last weekend and they were great in that condition too.
The filter for my Expedition came with a gasket, but the stock reusable one was fine, so I kept it on. No leaks.
I've been happy with the gray RTV. Used it on a few diff covers without so much as a drop of oil getting out. I assume it would work well in your case. Not to sound condescending...
Sometimes looking down the fill hole isn't definitive to determine if you have sludge. In fact, depending on what is visible, it may tell you nothing. Forget about pulling valave covers, unless you need to or want to spend the money. My suggestion is to run an engine flush/cleaner in the oil...
I used RP in my rear diff on the expedition with no need to add any FM. Kind of expensive, but I wanted the best since I don't plan on ever chnaging it again.
My mom used to bowl when I was 9 or 10 (1990) and the bowling alley always had a ton of smokers. I hated being there but on my nights with her, didn't have much of a choice. I always wonder if going there for years had a lasting affect on my health as an adult.
I'm an occasional cigar smoker...
