I have both on two different cars.
The Winterforce on a 4 door FWD sedan is very noisy! For your long commute it will drive you crazy.
The Michelin x-ice 2 is very quiet. Noise level is very close to the all seasons also Michelin.
Performance wise i think the x-ice 2 is better and will last...
Falken - thanks for pointing out the thread.
I might stick with the HONDA OEM PLM-A01. It will fit multiple year Honda cars rather than buy seperate filters for each model year.
For the Honda guys out there....
For aftermarket oil filters I've noticed that Hondas prior to 2002 take a different filter number then Hondas after 2002.
e.g. WIX Part number for 1994 is 51334 vs. 57356 for 2008 Accord
Honda OEM part numbers have stayed the same 15400-PLM-A01/2 are...
Thanks for all the information guys. I appreciate the quick responses.
I usually use 5W30 year-round, but this fall switched to 10W30 due to oil usage. I wanted to see if switching to 10W30 helped with excess oil usage (no noticeable difference).
My car manual (1994 Honda Accord) recommends...
Hi there,
Have a fill of Shell 10W30 dino. Over the last week we have had a few days here where the temperature is about 0 Fahrenheit (-17 celcius).
Is it safe to continue use of 10W30? I normally switch to 5W30 in the winter, but have been traveling. Car starts up a bit slow. But nothing too...

Hello,
1994 Accord 4cyl with 150k miles. I'm burning oil at a rate of 1 quart every 3k miles. Car is running well, and is well maintained.
I've switched from 5W30 to 10W30 with no noticeable difference in oil burning.
Would the high mileage oil's help? What kind of difference can I expect to...
StevieC,
What does the Krown guy say when you show up for the second time? They only do the undercarriage the second time? Do you get a discount?
I have also heard that you can get away with Krowning every other year.
Good stuff. Been waiting for a cut open Carquest Red. I have one sitting in front of me...
Any idea how to cross reference the filter number with the car it applies too? I tried searching but could not find anything.
I second (or third) Carquest. Got their Wix made (according to the parts guy) Carquest Red for my Honda Accord for around $5 after taxes, environmental fees etc.
To be honest, $10 isnt very much for a filter. Can barely buy lunch these days for $10!
Great ideas. Thanks for the responses.
Car is used for short distances (15 minutes/10 miles)to work. The car has about 120k miles. Its not a turbo. The oil pan holds 6 litres. Oil and filter changes are usually done every 4-5 months.
I'm a bit reluctant on the UOA. The "mayo" doesnt even look...
Hi guys,
First post. The dipstick of my Volvo 850 shows the oil as thick/whitish. Peered inside the oil filler cap and all seems well. Oil was changed one month ago (about 1k miles) with Castrol GTX 5W30. There seems to be no coolant loss.
From what I've read, it seems like a condensation...
