Like someone above said. My 5.3 L83 is also silent running on 0W20/5W20. Got 130000 miles now. I believe the squirters only work when the oil pump goes into the high pressure mode above 3500 RPM.
Even though theres plenty of answers above,
I have always ran PP or M1 in my truck (whoever has the rebates at the time) and through the oil fill cap i can clearly see the rocker arms still look brand new clean. As in the engine was never started. So i believe any synthetic changed on time will...
Looking at viscosities at 100c, 20 and 30 weights are almost the same. Very close. So going from 20 to 30 is almost no difference. So i tried a 40 wt. My 5.3 is almost the same as the l86 6.2L that is also specd for 0W20 in the trucks.
For sure im going to be using my M1 0W20 or 5W20 after...
Curiosity got the best of me today.
I got 8 qts of Mobil Delvac 1300 15W40 and did an oil change on my 2015 silverado 5.3L
I was curious what differences in oil pressure there would be since it seems it has always stayed about the same for the last 120k miles. Weather its 20* F starts or...
I know my 2015 5.3 is a whole different engine but i have 115,000 on it now and have used M1 or PP with 5-7k mile ocis for the most part since new. Uses No Oil.
If you keep clean oil in these afm engines you wont have issues.
If the truck has AFM i wouldnt do 10k mile ocis. I usualy change the oil in my 5.3 every 6 thousand with M1 or pp. Ive gone 8k miles a couplle times though. You want to keep that engine especially clean with the AFM system so you dont have oil consumption or lifter issues. The previous owner was...
Go ahead and run a 30wt Ive been using 5w30 in my silverado spec 'd for 0W20 for awhile and dont notice any difference in anything. The synthetic 20s and 30s are soooooo close in viscosity at operating temp.
Whebever its 105* out like today, whenever my truck is idling im just a little bit...
If you look at the viscosities at 100*C the 0W20 and 5W30s are very close. About 1 cst difference usually. This was my justification for running the 30 over the 20 in the summer. It was 107F here in southern Idaho today. In winter when its 15F ill run the rest of my 20 Weight in it. When thats...
Nice job buying oil without knowing what to buy.
I run 5w30 in my silverado now thats specced for 0w20. Runs the same to me. The 2019s are back to 5w30 anyway. No more 0w20 for gm trucks
I saw a video of under the hood on a 2019 Sierra and they are coming with 5W30 caps now instead of the 0W20 they have been specced for since 2014. Still waiting to hear why from someone. The one in the video was the 6.2L
