How bad is this chain deflection?

There are go/no go gauges for use on bike chains to help determine when the chains need to be replaced. The older tool I have measures 0.75 and 1.0% stretch, and the newer one 0.5 and 0.75% stretch (reflecting a reduced tolerance for stretch with the newer thinner chains). Is there anything...

Road Force balanced and still vibrate

My experience with Goodyear tires is similarly bad. No more for me. The different franchise shops kept balancing them, which did no good. I think the problem was shifting belts.

Chinese hacking group APT31 uses mesh of home routers to disguise attacks

Ack, I recently installed a TP-Link Wi-fi range extender. Does this put me at risk of being hacked?

What are you reading right now?

This was an excellent read. I've read a number of books about the Kennedy family previously, but this one added some interesting stuff, as well as being almost right up to date. Some critics say coauthor James Patterson only lent (sold) his name to it to boost sales. I don't know, but if so...

    just picked up a new 1978 f150

That dash brings back memories - I drove a leased one for a summer job in 1980. Same floor shifter too.

Scion xD with 168,000 miles - clunking sound over bumps

That's a very definitive test! In my experience, a worn end link will make a knocking noise over speed bumps, whereas a worn stabilizer-bar bushing will cause more of a thumping noise.

Scion xD with 168,000 miles - clunking sound over bumps

Did you check the stabilizer-bar end links with the suspension loaded (that is, with the wheels on ramps or a lift)? If that corner of the car is jacked up, with the wheel hanging, the slack is taken out of the loose ball-and-socket fittings, and they (misleadingly) seem to be OK. I've made...

    1949 Ford 8N Tractor Won't Start

I just watched this 2-part video. Thought it was excellent - I now have a much-better understanding of what my friend is dealing with. (We talked a week ago, and he had made some progress, but didn't have the tractor running yet.) Thanks so much!

Things we see driving around - original content (pictures you snapped)

You've got me beat - in my worst bike accident (June 2000), I crushed a helmet, broke a tooth, and donated much skin and blood to the road, but didn't sustain a concussion. Got off easy, all considered.

Thoughts and opinions on 2012 beetle 2.0tsi

This is probably incorrect, but the joke here was: Base = Jetta Trunk cut off = Rabbit Top cut off = Cabriolet Retro sheet metal = New Beetle

    Liftmaster Garage door opener issues

@Chevelle3221, is it possible the safety sensors are only marginally aligned, and break contact with vibration?

Changing out a top mounted toilet seat.Yuk.

Your comment sparked this exchange: Me: "Dear, hypothetically, what do you think of the idea of periodically running a toilet seat through the dishwasher?" Her: "EWW, THAT'S DISGUSTING!!!"

    Old Mechanics

I used a similar one back in 1980. I think ours might have been an Allen. Very useful tool!
