The 2.4K engine does not commonly have a problem with sticking rings.
There were 2 years that had some problems, but still it wasn't real common. Usually the extended OCI vehicles.
The PCV hose and valve are common problems when they start to burn oil.
The spool valve on the back of the head...
Look how much influence the moon has on (very massive) tides, from 240,000 miles away.
Man isn't capable of impacting the world's natural physics, is a very popular fictional viewpoint.
All I know is - water impounding be dammed - I'm keeping my rain barrels ;)
I am trying to avoid hijacking a caliper thread, discussing a sunroof leak. (Even though it's related with the silicone lube.)
BUT - I've found the best way to check drain hoses for blockage is with a disposable 16oz cup, slowly pouring water in each corner of the trays, with the roof open.
The...
Sunroofs aren't designed to seal. They have a drip tray around all 4 sides, then that water is directed to drain hoses located at each corner.
If a sunroof leaks it's usually because one of the drain hoses is blocked, not allowing the water to drain away.
If you want to trust the vehicle as "reliable" again, and the pressure relief is built into the oil pump (looks like it is), replace the pump.
Evidently you have a sporadic problem, because you were able to drive it 200 miles before the filter burst. The only way I would trust it again if it...
Did the engine die when this occurred?
On a couple of vehicles I've seen do this to a filter, the excessive pressure caused the hydraulic lifters to float the valves, and compression was lost temporarily.
From what I've read - no experience here - the PTFE seals have no spring.
Open the link from @Trav and there's an illustration of the lips in that.
It does appear to be very important to use a tool, to get the lips safely over the shaft.
Corporate management often doesn't consider the real world in their decisions.
There have been many procedures that require a vehicle to sit for a period of time.
Example: a software update that takes an hour to complete, and the procedure only pays enough time to hook up the equipment, and...
I'm not sure this would apply to all PTFE seals, I found that when searching for PTFE seals installation instructions.
I've never heard of installing a seal dry. And this caught my attention - as I never would have guessed that.
