If the prices are similar I think I’d go with the Echo. Echo makes outstanding equipment and a small 2-stroke will run a little tiller like a champ.

Automotive batteries seem to last a very long time in Canada. Of course most of us have six months of winter and while we have days of “extreme” heat (100F+) as well, most summer days are more moderate. I traded in my 2011 F150 seven years later with the original Motorcraft battery installed.

99% of these guys don’t know a thing about either engine and are simply parroting what they’ve read or heard before. Take advice with a grain of salt.
