Hydraulic fluid replacement for 10w 30

Thanks for all your feedback and suggestions. I think I am going to go with the Mobil Tractor Hyd. fluid. for a couple reasons. 1) Its priced well and more importantly easy for me to get - in stock locally or free shipping online. 2) Meets Allison C-4 and Cat T-02 specs specifically mentioned...

Hydraulic fluid replacement for 10w 30

Sure... I can muster another question.. :) Viscosity Index.... I understand this is probably wildly oversimplifying but VI is the measure of a fluid viscosity stability over a temperature range. So if I am comparing different fluids and other things being equal, a higher VI would be desirable ?

Hydraulic fluid replacement for 10w 30

I thought I had read that 80W was close to a 10w 30, but then I figured I may have had that wrong. So SAE rates "engine" oil and "gear" oil differently (brilliant). I am in the North East (Connecticut) and the machine is just for my around the farm fun work, so I can probably get away with a...

Hydraulic fluid replacement for 10w 30

I searched around a little but didn't really find a whole lot on this here. I have a skid steer that calls for 10w-30 engine oil for the hydraulic system. I am going to change all 15 gallons and I think I would like to go to a hydraulic fluid instead of the 10w 30. I understand that 10-30 will...

Oil Viscosity and bearing clearances - Diesel rebuild

I am in the process of rebuilding a small diesel in a piece of equipment. As I am going through the process of measuring everything up, and testing oil clearances, I have started to think about oil viscosity. Correct me if I am wrong, but my basic understanding of selecting oil viscosity has...

Dealership topped dexcool with green, what to do..

I would find another car and another dealership or suffer the consequences... but don't say we didn't warn you. Good luck

GM Coolant Alternatives for coolant intellectuals?

Lots of great information! Thank you everyone for contributing. That is a great SAE article and I had not really paid attention to the JD formulation, but that too is great information. So... after reading and pondering all of the information brought to the table, I still believe that Dexcool...

GM Coolant Alternatives for coolant intellectuals?

Wow...you guys are the best when it comes to fluid tech/knowledge and I have to say I am really surprised at the defense of Dexcool. I find it interesting that many have mentioned or alluded to GM designing their newer engines to be compatible with Dexcool. Doesn't that seem a little backwards...

GM Coolant Alternatives for coolant intellectuals?

http://www.sancarlosradiator.com/dex-cool.htm http://www.reuters.com/article/gm-settlement-idUSN2735011520080327 I don't think we can deny there have been issues with Dexcool (modern vehicles or not) Google BMW coolant issues, Mercedes coolant issues, Toyota coolant issues....? Nothing...

GM Coolant Alternatives for coolant intellectuals?

I thought that I had flushed the Genset out, but it was years ago, I don't really remember. I was also coolant un-educated. If you walk down the coolant aisle at walmart there is basically an entire row of identical bottles. Prestone Dexcool and Prestone... both claiming "all makes, All...

GM Coolant Alternatives for coolant intellectuals?

The vehicle in question is a 2011 Silverado 2500 6.0 (gas). And let me start by saying... YES.... I did a bunch of searching already and YES...I know I am going to get plenty of "just use Dexcool" responses.... But I am sorry, I can't help myself... I have to obsess over this, at least a...

Hydraulic fluid for old bucket truck

I did learn that the pump is a Vickers (Eaton) V10 vane pump. So if I understand correctly.... AW32 is a basic anti wear hydraulic oil with viscosity rating of 32 (or the 32 somehow relates to the vis. ) and does not include additives for tractors. There is a lot of information on the John...

Hydraulic fluid for old bucket truck

I have also seen mention of Mobil 220 for boom trucks, whic has a viscosity closer to the MV22. But that does not appear to be readily available. Keep the suggestions coming....

Hydraulic fluid for old bucket truck

Hello, I have an old (1989) Altec AT200 bucket. This is a non-insulated telescoping type and its only used around my property a couple times a year. I try to maintain my equipment with the best parts and fluids, but lets be realistic... cost is significant factor on this one. Altec replied to...

    Old Gas

I am sure this has been covered before and I did some searching but lots of opinions and little science. I am quite familiar (I am sure most BTOG regulars are) with the general problems associated with old gas - evaporation of additives, Ethanol/water separation, particulates, varnish, etc...
