I've cut open fram filters that were NOS from the 60s 70s & 80s and I would say even at that age the only thing that would make them unusable might be a hard ADBV, everything else was in excellent condition. If you search around you might find the post of a guy cutting open a 90s fram on here...
I swear by it! My dad thinks I'm being overly picky cause it usually takes me a solid minute to do my filter inspection before installation but It makes me feel better
Just recently found a defective fram ultra xg2 out of my stash, the leaf spring in the bottom was weak or installed wrong. I found that out when I did my "shake the heck out of it test" to make sure the filter was assembled right. Thats the first filter I've found to be loose internally in my 4...
This filter was ran on my 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis from 11-24-23 till 5-18-24 from 111897 to 118790 miles. The oil I ran with it was Quaker State Ultimate Protection 5w30, replaced with Valvoline Daily Protection 10w30 and a Fram Extra Gaurd PH2.
While I usually love Fram Filters this has me a little puzzled to say the least. A $6 filter and a $10 that appear to be carbon copies of each other, the ultra box was sealed so no store switcheroo stuff happened.
