    Effect of 2nd Auto-Rx treatment?

I just posted a reply in the "Mechanical...." forum after draining my 2nd cleaning phase of ARX on a 3.1L Pontiac @ 112K miles too. Unfortunately ARX did not seem to help, unless something magical happens in the next 1-2 months into this 2nd rinse phase I am going to view it as a cheap $40...

94 GP 3.1V6 rough idle, plugs foul, uses oil

So I thought for some type of "closure" I would add one more post to this from what was started way last summer. We now have over 112K miles on the Pontiac and went through TWO AutoRX treatments. Yesterday I did the oil change after the 2nd 1000 mile cleaning phase. Unfortunately ARX did not...

    Good Oil for Locks ?

So lotsa different advice(s) here. My specific question relates on what's good for an ignition key that occasionally jams but always eventually starts the car. I suggest WD40 which I have used in outside door locks and should not harm any electrical wiring it might get into - vs comments on...

    Good Oil for Locks ?

Both keys act up, one is a new key. So methinks its tumblers sticking or the ignition assembly wearing out (40,000 mi seems too early for that). On another forum a gentleman said never used WD40, use graphite spray. I may just check with a locksmith for their advice, hopefully they won't give me...

    Some info on gasoline brands...

Thanks BTW for this useful info as I occasional scan through this additive section being in the middle of an ARX test and happened to spot this. So I see a couple recent posts since Sept 4; the one on ethanol which we are stuck with in MN perhaps is not that common nationwide. However, back to...

94 GP 3.1V6 rough idle, plugs foul, uses oil

Well just picked up the car and this mechanic (friend of guy that works for me) is 100% sure it needs a value job. FIs are ok, no problem with intake manifold. Valve job is around $1000, which he does not recommend for a car worth maybe $1700, so he put in new platinum plugs and said it should...

Red Line 4-Cycle Alcohol Fuel Lube

OK, well I clicked on this link looking for information on Redline SI-1 fuel system cleaner, anybody used this? I got a good reference on another link in this column. Here is what it does... A concentrated package of the most powerful high-temperature detergents available to clean gasoline fuel...

94 GP 3.1V6 rough idle, plugs foul, uses oil

I want to thank Jelly for a personal note and more tips including trying some Redline fuel system cleaner. I also got a tip from a GM mechanic that the 3.1L engines are prone to having the intake manifold gaskets go bad ... a leak can cause extra oil to get pulled into cylinders. That looks like...

94 GP 3.1V6 rough idle, plugs foul, uses oil

Jelly: No antifreeze leaking or lowering of levels. As the car aged it seems to take forever to warm up in the winter so I had a new thermostat put in a few years back which did not seem to help (car when new warmed up much faster)much so the slowness to warm might aggravate this more in winter...

94 GP 3.1V6 rough idle, plugs foul, uses oil

Thanks for your replies...I am new to this so this is what else I have/know: Alan - I can check for timing but we had done the vacuum leak check a while back and no luck, all OK. I believe the intake is what got cleaned per my #3 above, but I can pursue the vacuum thing again. Cutehumor - no...

94 GP 3.1V6 rough idle, plugs foul, uses oil

I have a 94 Pontiac Grand Prix with 3.1L V6, have owned since new. It has 108K miles now, I used to drive to work but kid recently bought it out from me. The past few years it's had a rough idle especially during cold (MN) winter days and uses a quart of oil in 800 mi winter, 1K miles summer. No...
