Still feeling out the new 6.7 powerstroke, and about to do my first long heavy towing. Manual mandates 5-40 oil for severe service...in this case towing over 1000 miles on the change cycle. I expect the IOLM to tell me to change oil at somewhere around 5000 miles as it will factor in towing etc...

I expected to find lots of people reporting transmission issues with this type of a maintenance schedule...but I have not. Thanks for all the input. I think I'll watch the fluid quality closely, and maybe a flush/fill schedule of 50,000 miles would make me feel better. This still amazes me.

How can it be that the drain/fill requirement for this transmission is at 150,000 miles and there no no extra requirements for severe service? Normal operating temps for this transmission are about 200 degrees unloaded. Am I missing something or is this normal and ok?

Well, thats what I kind of thought to, but their website is real weird on the whole issue...one of the shell "answer forums" taked to the issue and the response was "you should be allright".....anyway, FYI. For me, I just won't mix them.

FYI...Just checked the Rotella website and it advises against mixing the two formulations of Rotella 15-40.....they say ok to "top off" with either, but not to mix them!!!!!! So, isn't that special....now I have to try and find one gallon of the old stuff!
