    Viscosity Extrapolation to 150°C

Hi Gokhan Thank you for your reply, straight to point as usual. I was attempting to show the possible problems with extrapolating beyond the data points using the Walther astm341 simple formula. I was comparing astm341 with the enhanced Walther 3 with variable C constants. So this is not the...

    Viscosity Extrapolation to 150°C

In order to pursue Harman index, etc, calculations, the first step is to extrapolate the viscosity data to 150°C. But there have been warnings that the formula cannot be relied upon. First some background. Extrapolation is usually done with the help of online calculators and Apps for your...

    Android My Tracks speedometer calibration

There different rules in different parts of the world. In the UK I believe that the basic rule is that the speedo shall never read less than actual. So to allow for errors the speedo has to set to about 5% fast as standard.

The journey of oil through an engine-video

Is Berniedd allowing for the fact that in a 4 stroke engine, camshaft and hence valves go at half engine speed?

why was 10W-40 so popular back in the 1960's?

Quote: Now, where on that chart is there any reference to KV40? The KV40 is as irrelevant as CCS or MRV numbers for determining whether it's a 30 or a 40. Garak Curious choice of table to illustrate your point. KV40 figures do appear in 3 columns to KV100 in two columns. Anyway this seems...

    Question about oil viscosity

Despite the slightly higher VI by the time you get down to 0°C the M1 0W-40 is 563 cSt and the Mag 1 5W-40 is 645 cSt so it's now a bit thicker, which is probably what you would expect.

    Tables

Sorry about posting here but I can't find the appropriate place to post. Question: How do you post a table of data? Is it possible to create one using this editor? I have tried copying from a word processor and all I get is a list of the table contents. Thanks

Determining the REAL V.I. of a motor oil

The VI calculation does produce some curious figures. If we take it to the extreme and calculate (using Widman) the VI for "perfect" oils i.e. oils that have the same viscosity at 40°C as at 100°C. We get. A 20cst oil has a VI of 874 A 5cST oil has a VI of 1647. If the VI calculation was what I...
