I have used wolverine brand but about 2 years ago I bought a few cheap ebay pan heaters -looked the same as wolverine but you have to add power plug -they have worked fine for last 3 years -I think these silicone heater pads are all made in china anyway -there is not much to them-just heating...

Sounds like a cv axle to me -which wheel was bent? Maybe cv axle was also damaged/bent slightly -bad cv can be intermittent.
