just wanted to say thanks to all of you that helped. I did the job today (along with trans pan drop for filter/gasket change).... here's what I went with:
5 qt 15w-40 Rotella T HDEO
1 Qt MMO
Wix 51515 filter
Plan to run this for 3k and drop it. As I said before, I am the new owner of this...
Already have a Wix 51515 filter, no need for the FL1A, maybe next time.
Leaning towards the 10w30 MaxLife, but for some reason the HDEO intrigues me.
I think after this OCI, I will go back to Mobil 1 10w-30 HM however.
Forgot to mention that although my oil level reads fine on the dipstick, according to the gauge, I have lower than normal oil pressure.
Would this condition help dictate the viscosity to choose?
Thanks for the info...
I looked for some Rotella 10w-30 today but couldn't find it. All they had was 15w-40.
If I do substitute one quart of MMO for oil, could the 15w-40 Rotella be a good choice to combat the thinning of the oil as per what MechTech said?
It's time for me to change the lube on my "new" Bronco. I bought this truck about a month ago.
It is a 1993 fullsize Bronco 4x4 with the 302 v8. It has 173k on the clock, but I discovered this week that due to the 4" lift and 33" tires, it more than likely has more actual miles than 173k.
I am...
Just bought some of the Q TorquePower 5w-30 to put in my 02 Dodge Dakota 4x4.
WallyWorld had this oil on clearance for $11.00 for 5qt Jug and $2.50/Qt.
6 Qts for $13.50 and a Mopar M0-90 Filter for $6.27 = Not a bad oil change for less than 20 bucks!!!!
I found it at my local BeeJays in the Auto section with the rest of the oils... back where the tires are. There was a whole pallet of 6 pack cases of the FormulaShell Full Syn.
I think I have read TOO much on this site.
I really want to try this FormulaShell. Would it be a problem to go to this Full Syn on a truck with 102k? All I have used in the last 60k has been a Syn Blend (Valvoline DuraBlend/MaxLife Blend). Will I see a performance improvement? FYI, the engine...
I feel your pain. The filter on my 02 Dakota 4.7L V8 is a PITA to get to as well. It has a "filter access" door in the underpinning that is barely big enough for my arm to fit through. Not only do I scratch my arm up like you, but then usually bust a knuckle or two wrenching the filter off...

And since Shell owns Pennzoil, I think Pennzoil Platinum uses the same stock. I'm sure I saw it on BITOG.

Just saw that the local WallyWorld now carries Mopar brand filters with the Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep logos on them.
Anyone know who makes this filter and if its any good? If it is, I may try on on my 02 Dakota. It was priced at just shy of $5.00. I typically use a Wix filter.
Another item of note...
