    6.5 TD leaking oil

I have an internal oil leak on my 96 GMC Suburban, 6.5 TD. Almost 211,000 miles on it, running Rotella 15w-40 and Wix filters. Only gets occasional use most of the time. Driving more often right now while other truck is in shop. A while back, was running it a high idle and it unexpectedly died...

    Wix "MP" filters

What is the difference between a WIX 51060 and 51060MP? Is the "MP" simply a 51060 sold in a "MultiPack"? Same company (Complete Filtration Services) sells 12 packs of 51060 and 51060MP. About a $5 difference between the two 12 packs (MP is cheaper).

    1996 Suburban Transmission

Update on this -- no further symptoms of transmission problems. Have replaced the fluid with Maxlife high mileage, old fluid was dirty, but could have been much worse. Shifting from 1st to 2nd is better but noticeable; every other shift is almost unnoticeable unless you are really paying...

    Recommended OCI for 6.5 TD

Thanks for the great insight -- one question, you list some recommended filters (Pure 1, the Royal Purple, Mobil 1, Amsoil). How does Wix stack up against those in this application? My uninformed opinion was that Wix was a pretty good filter, but your not mentioning it makes me wonder. I am not...

    Recommended OCI for 6.5 TD

I've been running at a 3K OCI as best I can. I relocated with PMD to under the front bumper about a year and a half ago; no issues with it. I just poured a ton of money into it on A/C and brakes, so my budget is shot for now. But its still better than a payment on a new one. New injectors are next.

    Recommended OCI for 6.5 TD

Running Rotella T with a Fram (I know, I know, I'm switching to Wix when my stock runs out) in a 6.5 TD 2500 Suburban with about 189,000 miles on it. Its gets 5-20 mile trips around town about 4 days a week and long trips (500-1000) miles on occasion (2-3 times a year). I have towed with it, but...

    Coolant Recommendation

Finally found some Zerex G-05 locally. Drained what looked to be DexCool (I didn't think it had DexCool in it previously) out, flushed it twice, then refilled with G-05 and distilled water. What I drained out all three times looked very clear, no sediment or other particulars. Two questions...

    Coolant Recommendation

Can anyone give me a recommendation on a coolant for my 96 Suburban with a 6.5TD? Its largely a daily driver but does will see some trailer towing over extended distances 1-2 times a year. It has about 185,000 miles. I'm vaguely familiar with all the DEXCOOL debate and would prefer to stay...

    1996 Suburban Transmission

This is for the 4L60E: http://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1075961 I forgot I had found this for a 4L80E: http://www.autoblog.com/2006/03/31/autoblog-maintenance-101-transmission-fluid-and-filter/ As I read this, the spec for the 4L60E is 97 In Lbs and the...

    1996 Suburban Transmission

The fluid level is fine, but I can tell it needs changed. I'm doing that this weekend; does anyone have the torque spec on the pan? I found on here 97 in/lb for a 4L60E, but is it different for a 4L80E? As an aside, I had sort of "emergency" trip where I had to tow my (mostly) empty utility...

    1996 Suburban Transmission

One of the draws of the aftermarket pan is the drain plug, but if the benefit of an aluminum pan and extra fluid capacity is minimal, I'll delay or not do it at all. Research here indicates most any filter is OK -- I'm thinking Purolator?

    1996 Suburban Transmission

OK, after doing more research here and elsewhere, I'm thinking I'll drop the pan, replace the filter, refill with a store brand ATF, run it for a while, and then put a good quality ATF in after a 5K or so. I also think I'll put a higher capacity aftermarket pan on (B&M?). Recommendations on...

    1996 Suburban Transmission

Thanks for the quick replies; I'll go through all that this weekend or sooner. Would dropping the pan, changing the fluid, and replacing the filter be a waste? I'm sure it needs done.

    1996 Suburban Transmission

I have a 1996 GMC Suburban 2500, 6.5 TD, 4x4 and I'm concerned it may be developing a transmission problem. About a month ago I noticed didn't want to shift up (to 3rd I think?). Only noticed it once though. A couple days ago, after being on the interstate for about an hour, it started shifting...

    1994 Ranger Recommendation

Looking for a recommendation on oil and filter for my 1994 Ford Ranger. I did a search here for similar cases, but didn't readily find one, so here goes. From the sticky: 1. 1994 Ford Ranger 3.0 engine, manual transmission 2. Owner's manual recommends SAE 5W-30. 3. I live in Northern Virginia...
