The Story

This engine was brand new at the start. Only had a few factory miles prior to putting in Schaeffers TCW3 two stroke oil. Ratio used was 75:1.

This is a 2001 GAS GAS XC 125

Running history..

5 Hare scrambles .. min 1.5 hrs long each

8 Enduro runs.... 4 hrs each

1 National Enduro run 5 hrs.

40 hrs of practice.

The problem after all this , bike starting to lose top end power. Pulled for a Rebuild but found all it needed was a power valve replacement from where it broke at the bottom of the stem. Below are pictures on how this engine looked as we pulled it apart.

Notice how the top where the sparkplug is, there is very little carbon build up.
Piston has no scaring on the skirt and wrist pin area has no buildup. No, we did not clean it. We used a dry rag and wiped it off.
The carbon left by Schaeffers TCW3 on top of the piston, is soft and not hard. Notice you can see the metal surface area where we just rubbed it with the thumb.
This is a picture of the exhaust port and inside the cyl area where the piston runs up and down. Again, minimal amounts of soft carbon.

After tearing the top end apart, found one of the power valves broke where the stem connects. Notice, again, both power valves having all the abuse and punishment from racing at 75:1 TCW3 mix, still maintains a thin film of carbon, which can easily be scraped off. Notice the one on the bottom right, this is where we just rubbed our finger near the center of it.  You can see  surface of the power valve showing through the soft carbon.

The slides were both clean and free of any build up.
