Maxlife being Resource Conserving? Blasphemy!

It's also SM/SN... I guess they have to upgrade sometime.

BTW, It is awesome that you have a 55 gallon drum of it!

Towncivilian and SuperDave are correct , new formulation is Resource Conserving as well as meets/exceeds Dexos1 requirements. Durablend is going bye bye.

And that drum is for our shop lol. We got a 5w20 and a 5w30 Drum, much to my delight. I was getting tired of ordering Qts every week lol.

The first high mileage oil is first again. But what does that mean to be dexos compliant in regards to weight and additives? When I need a high mileage oil I look for one thats thick for its grade and has plenty of wear adds. Historically that would exclude high mileage oils.

The way it was explained to us was that the oil already had enough additives and wear qualities to be dexos compliant. What it lacked was the resource conserving quality. The rep said they had to increase the synthetic base stock content to meet those, whatever that means. The additive pack as far as it was explained hasnt changed much. Thats all I know for now. Ill keep updating as I receive more info.

Is it claimed to be meet/exceed dexos1 or is it actually dexos1 certified? I lean towards the former, and the Valvoline site seems to indicate the same thing. Most dexos1 licenced oils not only have the actual logo, but they list the licence number on the label. Nothing from Ashland shows up on the June 1, 2012 dexos1 list. Their site also prominently displays their marketing bulletin claiming that federal law disallows GM from requiring one to use dexos1 licenced oils in GM vehicles.

Not sure about official dexos licensing. Ashland has been against the dexos royalty [censored] to begin with. But for now GM owners CAN use the new maxlife and be safe from GM declining warranty coverage since it meets/exceeds the requirement.

Based on my reading here, my understanding is that Valvoline was opting out of the dexos licensing game. If the pictured product is not licensed, it certainly gives the appearance that it is. Hmmmm

Valvoline made it a point to not pay the GM royalties for Dexos1 licensing - and I think they are included in the current suit against GM. That being said, there is only one or two additional test requirements above GF-5, and there are other labs that can perform these tests.

An OEM can't make you use a licensed product, just "meets specification".

Durablend being discontinued? When?

All oil makers seems to be doing this - HM 'blends' are making a 'conventional blend pointless.

We can no longer order durablend. Not sure what their inventory looks like. They are also talking about addinanother grade to it maxlife lineup within a year or so. Guess which one..........

0w-20 or -5w20? hehehehe

From what I have read Dexos 100C range is 9.3 to 12.5.
I can not find the 40C range but other DEXOS-1 oils have a greater viscosity at 40C than Maxlife's 67.
