Would the engine last longer using 5w20 oil? No, but it would probably last longer using 10W-30. Since 80-85% of wear occurs on start why would a 10-30 oil help an engine to last longer than a quicker flowing oil like 0-20 or 0-30?

I have mostly used 5w 20 Motorcraft or Kendall syn blend on my Mazda 3 with no issues. At the moment I'm using PP but will most likely go to Kendall since I only do 5-6K OCI.

BTW, the Mazda 0W-20 oil is one Japanese 0W-20 we know nothing about in the States. We know who makes the Toyota, Honda and Subaru 0W-20s but not Mazda. If someone could post a picture of the bottle that might help determine the source of their oil.
Looks like another Idemitsu fluid. Kinda suspected it since they source the M-V ATF from said same source.

Does anyone know where the Mazda 0W-20 is sold? Would love to try it out.

It's sold at the Mazda dealership...I've bought some....and I've heard it's Petro Canada group III oil....not Idemitsu.

Thanks OceanDoctor. Yes that's definitely an Idemitsu bottle, so that's the source for the Mazda 0W-20 States side.
In Canada, my local Mazda dealer says it's sourced from Petro-Canada but I haven't dropped by to see if it is in the distinctive PC bottle or not. I'm not particularly interested in confirming one way or the other since it's priced at $5.95/L which is more than the Honda/Acura(Idemitsu) 0W-20 and the Toyota 0W-20 of which both are preferred.

Hello. My father's 2012 Mazda 5 has hit 10,000 miles and is ready for it's 3rd oil change. I know the factory recommends 0w20 oil but I feel like its too thin. Would the engine last longer using 5w20 oil? Also, what oil and filter should I use? I've heard motorcraft or mobil 1 are good, but please share your knowledge.
Thanks!!! Here is my UOA on my M6 with the 2.5L with Mobil 1 0w20. I would stick with 0w20 to avoid warranty "issues." Mobil 1 0w20 UOA

I just bought some 0w20 mobil 1 synthetic. Any recommendation on a cheap good filter? Motorcraft or genuine Mazda but if it's like here Motorcraft are considerably cheaper for the cartridge filter.

Would be nice to see the data sheet on this oil. Since it is the SM GF-4 version of the Idemitsu 0W-20 it very likely if the same as the original Idemitsu made Honda 0W-20 seen here: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1630856#Post1630856

Are you confident it's Idemitsu based on the bottle?

Yes pretty much. Haven't seen the label on the back of the bottle but it might even say made by Idemitsu as the Subaru bottle does.
