bolt(s) can rust and eventually snap off possibly leading to loss of control . You may hear a clunking noise from the front end which may indicate the issue . There was an TSB for this in CANADA ( TSB 3271 ) and now has been posted for the U.S.. Those who live in areas of heavily salted roads may want to look into this matter . Our '08 has been clunking for over a year now . Last August we took a copy of the TSB from CANADA to a TOYOTA service center . We then showed and told the manager of our concern and if they could inspect it . In return he says in an angry tone it's for CANADA and he doesn't believe anything from off the internet and no need to take a look at it . We plan to take it in soon since the TSB is now for the U.S.. The hours of labor are 7 and 1/2 hours . Last , it's only covered under the 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty . So , anyone over this is most likely going to have to pay for it along with an alignment . Smart of TOYOTA to put the burden on the consumer and save the cost and frustration of having to post a recall that would likely harm their rep more . Luckily if this is the problem for the '08 sedan it'll be covered under the PLATINUM extended warranty ( 8 yr./125,000 miles ) that was given to us for free due the head cylinder gasket being replaced .

Don't get us wrong , we do like the car even with its faults . Kind of like having a problem child that's running wild ( hopefully not due to broken control arm(s))and still caring for him/her.

TSBs issued in other countries dont apply to this country until they are issued in this country. All the auto manufacturers treat each countries operation as its own company for the most part.

FWIW TSBs are only covered under the NVLW for every manufactuer unless it specifically states an extended coverage. Generally with Ford, they are issued as a customer satisfaction field campaign.

You need to find a better dealer, if your service manager never even looked at or listened to your car when you indicated that you hear clunking noises while driving down the road.

Why didn't you contact Toyota and ask them to ask him why he refused to inspect your car?

BC.

Tried a few other service centers at that time and was told by the service managers it's for CANADA only and would have to charge us . Took TOYOTA over a year to notify service centers in the States of the same issue . The car only had 27,000 miles on it last September . Now has little under 35,000 . Drove the car onto ramps and looked at some of the bolts and a few are quite rusty . We have a lot of salt in our regoion . Especially last year with record snow . Set up an appointment , taking it in soon . Weather permitting . Talk of KATIA possibly hitting our area again . Hope not .

Forgot to mention that I discovered the T.S.B. for the U.S. by chance yesterday .

Went back to the same dealership that wouldn't look at it about this same time a year ago and pointed out the T.S.B. to the nicer service manager ( there's 2 ) who looked it up . Told him of how it clunks on occasion and he said if they test drove it and don't hear anything they would not replace it . They also said they wouldn't need to put it up on a lift to look at the bolts , if noise is not present . This will likely be the case for most / all TOYOTA service centers . We give up . We're thinking of taking it to HONDA service center with a printout of the T.S.B. and pay them to look at the control arms and bolts . If anything is found , we'll take the work sheet from HONDA and present it to a TOYOTA service center . Not traveling over 120+ miles for an appointment only to get nothing accomplished . May ditch this car , have been offered 10,000 for it .

You need to call Toyota corporate and politely insist that your concerns be taken seriously. You are not getting the consideration from the dealer you deserve. I wouldn't buy what that so called "nicer" SM told you for ONE minute!

You have got to learn to go after what you want, you clearly need to go up the chain of command to the Corporation.
I would also send a return receipt requested to the CEO of TM USA and explain your experience with this dealer.

Call Toyota Motor USA and tell them you insist on having an appointment with a district service manager (TM) Field Rep, at this dealer because they are not being thorough about inspection of the car and are dismissive about your concerns.and have a poor attitude towards the customer.

A TSB is just a bulletin on how to fix a potential problem. This doesn't mean all vehicles will experience the problem.

Regardless, good to know, but nothing to be concerned about...unless you are experiencing a problem.
