So Hybrids are using "race oil" since most spec 0w20???

Bob, thanks for posting the analysis. I'm surprised by how thick it starts out.

The subject is 0w-40. The oil does not meet ILSAC GF4 or GF5 specified for the majority of cars on the road (U.S.).
The "crack me up" is on you.
Most likely a great performace oil for high specific output engines with turbo supercharging.
I'll take it off Bob's hands for my Subaru ...

Wow, that's pretty thick. I thought their 0w oils were on the thinner side. Guess I was wrong. Whats the VI on this oil?

Thanks for the VOA. This oil is only 15.0 @ 100C on Red Line's site. What's up with the silicon and sodium numbers?

These levels of Si and Na are typical of virgin Red Line oil.

For reference the spec'd Moly and ZDDP levels are:

Moly - 950ppm
Zinc - 1330ppm
Phosphorus - 1200ppm

Shows how much variation there can be when doing UOA/VOA.

M1 0W-40 is often used as a race oil so what's your point?

Oh and Bob a belated thanks for posting this.

BTW if this 4.0cP HTHS vis oil is thicker than necessary for some applications it can be blended with RL's 0W-30 (HTHS vis 3.2cP) to achieve whatever viscosity you want between the two, all with RL's blessing.

YWVM Caterham. RL 5w30 is on my list... along with more 5w30s, 0w40, 5w40 and 10w40s....
