Hello again, and do any of you folks here know if the Exxon Superflo is still a good oil for 4-5k with a good filter like Purolator P-1 or WIX? I still see this oil at advance auto parts. Friend of mine with a older cavalier was wondering; I dont see many reason why not.

thank you in advance,

adam v

That oil would probably go 7-8k, application depending.

Try the new SN GF-5 Mobil Super 5000 with titanium - easy 5K and $11.50 at wallys for 5q jug - It killed the new PYB in our forester. It also has a sinister looking Jug!

Thanks guys and I will let him know bout it. His 98' cavalier has like 103k on it, no problems and he generally uses a pure one filter or napa gold on it with whatever is on sale; says he wants to try Formula Shell or Superflo.

thanks again, and heck I may use it on my civic also!

Must be not having any moly any more, no boron any more, lots of sodium and a whopping 36 ppm of titanium. What a deal at $11.50 cry

Only UOA will tell you if the oil has any significant issues for YOUR use and YOUR driving profile. You could see things like shear out of grade, high oxidation, fuel dilution, etc. which would help decide.

And it fully meets the strict API SM and GF-5 specs. So what dont YOU know about lubricant additisation by looking at a VOA?! Molys' dissappearing everywhere with the advent of GF-5 Could it possibly increase piston deposits and cause ring sticking? Not compatible with E85? Formula Shell SMwas moly loaded - smooth stuff.

So does the current Exxon Superflo still have a decent additive package? Talked to a older man that I work with and he uses it and it alone in his old 91' toyota 2wd truck and no complaints; he said he would try it if I was inclined. Might look at advance and autozone this thursday or friday and get some.

thanks

superflo is a good oil but why seek it out when M5000 is soooo cheap? i believe the M5000 is actually a step up.

thats like blowing off the $2 a qt QS sale at orielly's and seeking out $2.25 Formula shell

I agree with you there Electolover, just was wondering if it was just as good or decent in the additive department. Friend of mine bout some this afternoon and is going to use it for a 4 month oci, then we will cut his filter open.

If I can get it at advance I will or go to autozone.

Go to 'advanced seach', type 'Cavalier' into the subject, and 'Buffman' into the username section.

You will come up with 3-4 UOA's done on a 2001 Cavalier on Mobil 5000 10W-30 at 7-8k...they came out pretty good.

Really? You are serious ? Look up Xenophobia. With that logic we would never drive an English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, Italian, Vietnamese, German, Austrian, Russian, Chinese cars etc...

You better start ripping out components of your car like the alternator, stereo etc....

And cellphones, TV's, clothes, toaster, PS3...

Anyone else care to add to the list?

It doesn't matter how good Superflo is. It has been replaced by Mobil Special in the XOM oil lineup.

7400 mile, 4+ year OCI on a neglected engine. This oil was noted on an old 2006 Jiffy Lube receipt as "Mobil 10W-30" (previous owner kept all repair receipts), so I'm assuming it was Mobil Clean/Exxon Superflo. TBN held up reasonably well and the oil didn't appear black or chunky when it was drained. I was expecting worse.

Hey stubbakatt, does wal mart carry this Mobil Special? I didnt get the case but friend in punxsy area has it or some of it still thats SM rated. Anyone know if Autozone or Advance Auto carries this oil? Would like to try it out. Any help locating this oil or where to get some would be great. May check wal mart out friday to look for myself also.

thank you in advance

It looks like Target is starting to carry the Mobil Special. That's the only place I know of yet. According to this thread, it's $2.99 a quart.
http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2213745

Not sure if Walmart plans to carry it, since they already have tons of other Mobil oils. The Superflo is still an excellent oil if you can still get the leftover SM stuff.

Yeah, dont know if wal mart; the way they are these days will carry it or no. Yeah I think my friend up in Punxsy still has bout two cases that are SM rated, and he said he would look for sure. He wants 20$ a case he did say to me. Thats decent in my book. I will check out Advance Auto and Autozone friday or saturday to see if I can get a case of superflo or if they still have it, as I hear the SN stuff is slowly coming to stores; but lot of stores may already have gone to the SN. When I was in Punxsutawney wal mart bout 3 weeks ago, that wal mart had all pennzoil yellow bottle in SN already.

thanks for that link Stubbakatt also and the advice

Really? You are serious ? Look up Xenophobia. With that logic we would never drive an English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, Italian, Vietnamese, German, Austrian, Russian, Chinese cars etc....

Thats right right now we have no jobs and a dead or dying economy for our new vets and our kids. We have to start supporting ourselves. As it has been said Chinese only buy Chinese... we dont care about the future if we dont start supporting ourselves.
The fact that we dont have any more electronics etc. Made here when we invented them in silicone valley is exactly what i mean. We have hardly any American products so we have to support those we have. If i could buy an american stereo or tv i would. I only buy American tools. And anything else i have a choice of. Why the heck would I want a Korean or Japanese to have a job and not my own or my neivhbors kids? Stupid question. Let them buy their own products. Wake up.
