Do the oils differ that much? Wife's FJ crusier's maint light can on and needs an oil change. Walmart has 12 quarts on clearance of 10w30 valoline synthetic for $2.50 a quart. the oil must years old by the looks of the some what yellowing of the plastic, but its still SM.

The oil is fine, assuming that the lids are sealed and tight. If kept in normal storage, oil will last for a long time. Moisture is the enemy, but as long as those caps are on tight, I would be confident in using it.

agreed, moisture is the enemy, but in a cliamte controlled store, id say moisture is minimal at best

Boy you would probably cringe at the thought of me still using my stash of SJ and SL.

I vaguely remember being told that Mobil1 Oil had a shelf life of roughly 10 years. So if that's the case, I imagine most synthetic has a similar shelf life...

Summer is definitely the season to use 10w30 if you are going to use it instead of 0/5w30. GOOD DEAL!!

I still have SL rated Mobil 1, about 40 quarts. They will be perfectly good to use in 15 years.

In New Orleans, just as in SE TX, due to lack of cold 10-30 = 5-30. Buy it!
