Helping friend with a Dodge Ram 1500 1998 5.2L.

We replaced the rear 02 sensor because a wire burnt and went to ground. We cleared codes, truck ran fine for 2 days CEL came on again, with code p0135.

Book says 02 Sensor heater circuit malfunction cyl bank #1 Sensor #1.

Is this the 02 Sensor closest to the engine? We already changed the 02 Sensor furthest from the engine.

Exhaust smells like the engine is running rich.

TIA

I'm not an expert, but a bad manifold O2 sensor I belive causes the ECM to get confused, so perhaps.

"cyl bank #1 Sensor #1"

I think it is the one BEFORE the cat.

Bank 1 is the side of the engine with cylinder 1. Sensor 1 is before the cat.

Since you mention previous wire damage, ck the fuse(s) that supply the heater circuits.
