I am having the Dunlop SP60's installed on my Saturn next Wednesday. For 61 bucks a tire, they rate very highly in the snow considering they are an all season.

they are a great tire.. I wouldn't say best. but you are of course entitled to your opinion.

they are a very cost effective snow tire.

from a price/performance standpoint.

and only people who don't run snow tires compare any all-season to a snow tire.

I've never had that feeling with studs. The warmer and more slippery it gets, the better they dig. Very predictable.

twice a small amount of traction = half the distance stopping.

I help you to edit!
Winter Force tires are the best value snow tire

They are excellent on snow, soso on dry and decent on wet...
The noise level is higher than other winter tires...
The best is price!

So? Ford-Firestone incident is due to Ford's recommendation for running lower pressures on the Ford Explorer.

Back to the Winterforce. Had them on my old Golf. Definitely great in the white stuff.

Though this year, trying out the slightly more expensive General Altimax Arctic. Definitely quieter than the winterforce tires. White stuff??? I'll have to see.

I had Blizzak REVO1 on my Subaru Outback. Unstoppable. Between the Subaru AWD and winter tires, you couldn't be any safer unless you left the car in the garage and didn't venture out.

Same with my Outback and Goodyear Triple treads. One day it took 5 1/2 HOURS to go one way to work during a storm and I passed EVERYTHING that was stuck. 4x4 trucks, studded tired FWD and RWD cars. Just amazing how it did on the steep roads.

I'm driving the old school subaru these days. Shift on the fly, dual range 4x4 tranny. Somehow I prefer it to the AWD Legacy I used to own. After last years heavy snow fall, I didn't want to take any chances this year in case we really get some bad weather.

Inaccurate. But you're allowed your opinion.

Goodyear made a tire to the same Ford specs which only failed at a fraction of the failure rate of the Firestone, at the same 26 psi.

Problem was, the Goodyear tire cost Ford a few percent more.

A better tire, while still being an excellent value is the General Altimax Arctic (aka Gislaved Nord-Frost 3). The Winterforces are much better than an all-season in the snow/ice, but they are nothing special. They are getting quite old actually. TireRack put studs on a set of Winterforces and they were worse on the ice than the newest studless tires out there.

Anyway, I'm just glad you guys are using winter tires, no matter the make or model smile2

I too get the sense that the Winterforce is the bare minimum, lowest common denominator in a lot of tire tests.

It's one thing to be impressed with a Winterforce compared to (possibly worn out) all seasons, but it would be another to be impressed compared to other higher-end snow/winter tires.

Either way, even if they're winter force, do yourselves a favour and get winter tires if you actually experience winter in your area.

Considering my Bridgestone RE-92 all-season tires are pure junk, I'm actually quite satisfied with their Blizzak offerings.
