There is an engine oil flush/cleaning method recommended that is often cited here. Can someone post it? I tried using search, several times and could not find it.

Yeah, go to the Oil Additive section. I believe what you are talking about is AutoRx. Seafoam and Marvel Mystery Oil are 2 other options. All covered in that forum.

could turn this into an oil thread and say just use a good synthetic to clean it up, like pennzoil plat

I believe in a multilevel attack for a nasty engine. AutoRx-MMO-Amsoil Engine flush. NOT all at once of course. Short intervals after flushing, etc.

For mild cases, maybe just MMO or AutoRx and time with good oils.

I've said it myself, sometimes a simple change in chemicals will finish up a cleaning job. There is a lot of merit to attacking from multiple levels.
