So I ran Mobil 1 10w-30 in my 1995 honda civic ex for 4500 miles with a Fram high mileage oil filter. My car has 147,000 miles so the high mileage filter made sense to me. Little did I know how horrible Fram oil filters are.

So without further a do, here is it taken apart (sorry for the horrible picture quality):

Filter material with cheap cardboard ends:

Disgusting ball of goop I found at the bottom of the filter:

Any ideas of what the ball might be would be awesome. It almost felt like gelatin or something like it.

Looks like the media stayed in tact pretty well. I wouldn't worry too much.

Wondering if we compiled a nice long detailed email with all the links to opened frams if they would do anything and respond properly.

I suppose that may be it! Kinda weird that there was still that much left after 4500 miles.

You don't need a "high mileage" oil filter. It's just a sales gimmick from Fram.

The amazing part is they took the time to throw something extra (goo) inside the filter to cover the extra cost. I hope it was on the dirty side.

In the mid-late 90's they used "Teflon" that was inside the filter. That was when the big Teflon craze was going on...no way would I have ever put that on my engine.

The goop is on the clean side of the filter.

Properly? I'd doubt it. Once I asked a couple questions of them via email and they gave me a lot of $#@%& after they defended their junk filters. I posted elsewhere about how I had gotten two ph3387a filters when I bought ten qts of Quaker State and gave the filters to the relative that had bought my '00 cavalier. I would not put them on when I had the car, but he doesn't care (in some ways) so let him deal with the filters.

What a gimmick! M1/Amsoil/K&N filters cost more but deliver no-nonsense filtration that works.
