Check out BBC America's "Top Gear," very un-PC and refreshing! Great "Car Porn!" It is more of an entertainment show that happens to center around cars than it is a car show.

Check out BBC America's "Top Gear," very un-PC and refreshing! Great "Car Porn!" Top Gear is one of the few car shows I can watch on TV. i used to love watching all the car shows on Spike, now i cant stand the half hour infomercials. the best are the "budget" builds where they have an entire fab shop to make their parts for them.

I have watched Top Gear, it is pretty enjoyable, while they don't review many models anymore that the average joe can afford at least they have the balls to make negative observations about a car when it is deserved, unlike any US show.
I really used to LOVE "MotorVision". It was a German tv program where the star of the show was always.....the cars...go figure. They never had on camera personalities thank god, just well done detailed reviews of cars that ordinary people could actually afford to buy. The neat thing was that they had tests of all kinds of goodies that we couldn't get here like Renault Clio williams cup, Peugeot 205 GTI, VW Lupo GTI, Opel Corsa, Astra, Ford Fiesta, ect. All that and amazing videography of cars roaring around a test track..just OUTSTANDING!!!!

How else do these shows make money other than marketing products. Look at a NASCAR paint job.

Did anyone see the Motorweek on Saturday? The mechanic said you need to do more than a OC, and talked about a BG motor flush, is this truly recommended? I have seen motors go for over 200K with no motor flush. Curious on the experience with this... I saw this and lost a lot of respect for Goss' Garage.

Do you remember a show called last chance garage???? I think that was originally on TNN. The show eventually changed it name to shade tree mechanic, right? Two guys used to host it, usually they would actually do diagnostic work, or really repair something! Sure they did show products too, but at least they did "how-to" segments that often times had no relation to the products they were touting. I still think MotorVision from DE1 Germany was THE best TV car magazine EVER. Used to be carried on the old "Speedvision" which was far and away better than Rupert Murdochs NASCARCHANNE....err SPEED Channel.

That was a good show. Sure, they were sponser driven but they had products that the DIY can afford to buy and use - unlike Goss.

i didnt mind on those shows where they showed how to install or diag something and then went to the "parts dept" to show some cool new things. its when they constantly push stuff throughout the entire show that i lose interest. when we get snake oil peddlers into my work i avoid them like the plague.

I saw it. Basically, iirc, he said your engine might not last 50,000 miles if you don't flush it!
He also implied that the two valve covers he showed (one horribly dirty and one wonderfully clean due to regular flushing) came from otherwise regularly maintained engines, but I see no reason to believe him. Just finished watching it. Said it needed to be done every 30-40k, and showed specialized equipment and BG products. For the non BITOG reader the valve covers would have made impressive evidence. Wonder what he charges for the service? I have to say, it sounded more like an advertisement for BG and the service(s) at his shop. Pat's credibilty here is in question.
