Ok, a few months back the Silverado and the Honda went from Dino, to "valv-Syn". The Honda seems to be doing very well with little to no consumption. The Silverado on the other hand after me checking and adding today with less than 2000 miles on this OCI, ive now added almost a total of 3/4 + QRTt 1,000 mi it was between a third and a half low. today added about 1/4 qrt to bring it back to full.
Q. Chevy claims its in tolerance if it uses up to a full qrt every 1000 mi. do you think thre full of it ? it was NOT drinking white bottle valve 5-30 like this before the switch, and if it was i sure didnt notice. and no its not leaking. possable blow-by maybee ? ? ?

Sometimes when switching to different brands there can be an increase in consumption but it should decrease. If not I would go back to what you were using previously.

I have had this issue with our 09 Honda Odyssey right from Day one. It uses about 1/2L every 2000 km's (1600 miles). My dad bought the same exact van a week later and his uses none. Our previous Acura TL with the same engine used no oil.
That's 2.5L for every OCI of 6k miles
Honda tells me they allow for 1L of oil use every 1400km.
This doesn't sit well with me, mostly because I know my wife will never check the oil. However, there's not much I can do.
The van proudly displays the ULEV emissions status. I'm not sure how it can achieve this status while blowing so much oil out the tailpipe.
I've heard some talk about low tension piston rings for better fuel efficiency contributing to oil use, but I don't buy it when some Hondas use oil and others don't.
I'm thinking of switching to Maxlife 5w-20 so that I have 5w-20 receipts for warranty purposes, but a thicker 20wt to control consumption.
FWIW, my previous 5.3L Chev Avalanche used zero oil in about 5k OCIs.

Sometimes when switching to different brands there can be an increase in consumption but it should decrease. If not I would go back to what you were using previously. It can happen, and might take some time to subside. Waiting and seeing if consumption decreases is your only choice if you want to continue using the oil. As far as Chevy goes, most mfg's consider a qt of oil used/1000 miles to be normal. I wouldn't be happy with that, but it seems a lot of other mfg's follow the same guidelines for oil consumption.

Maybe pulling the sparkplugs might show if all the oil is being lost in one cylinder? In that case I think you might have a problem worth pursuing. My father in law's 07 Civic was burning all its oil in one cylinder and the dealer opened the engine up to fix it.

A quart every 1000 miles sux by anyone's standards. It's amazing that whatever costs a company a lot of money to fix is considered "normal". GM used to tell it's dealers to feed scouring powder (BonAmi) into its engines to "rough up" the cylinder walls to ease oil consumption. I'm telling you folks...... You haven't LIVED until you've worked on GM vehicles for a living.

I heard about the BonAmi, but then again look where GM's attitude got them today.

The Odysseys all have the 3.5L v6 (available in multi-displacement and not).

I heard about the BonAmi, but then again look where GM's attitude got them today. Some people think I'm joking when I tell them that BonAmi story. That whole company needs to go ballz down dead. I'm not kidding. "' 'Scuse me, sir....I'm just gonna take your oil burning , one year old car into the back of the shop and feed some scouring powder into it's cylinders while you aren't looking....."

'A' oil causes no oil use. 'B' oil causes oil use. Therefore, use 'A'.
