I have a dark blue van and after reading this I gave an ultra thin coat a try on the hood. In spots it almost looks like you are missing spots or it is not going on. Seems to be a little learning curve to using it.

Those pinheads you speak of are contaminants on the paint. If the surface is really smooth (clean) a thin coats comes right off.

I can't speak for the OP, but I clayed the hood of my van twice. The tiny pin heads I'm seeing look like tiny pin head sized fairly hard wax, and they're a PIA to get off. The Colonite I have is fresh bought from a store that sells it in pretty high volume.

It's called Collinite.

But I do get a chuckle when people call it colonite in the sense that Kryptonite is from the planet Krypton....if you get my drift!

My bad, like Mobil and Mobile. I'm a new Collinite user so go easy lol. I'm actually liking Rejex better. Hoping that will soon change though.

Sorry, I bought 2 cans of this while on vacation in Yuma, AZ for a closeout of 2.99/can. Haven't tried it yet.

First time I used 476 last year I did the whole vehicle and let it dry too long, too thick of a coat. Was a bear to get off.

Next time I did a few panels at a time and thinner and was much easier. Now that I have a PC 7427 and Meguiars machine, I do the whole car thin and as soon as I get done applying I start with the machine where I started waxing and work my way around removing it.

I thought the PC 7427 and Meguiars machines were pretty much the same thing.

Edit: whoops, I read 7424 not 7427.

I just did my 93 Aerostar about a week or so ago, and I have to say I found a winning combo for me. I clayed it, used Color-x, and then a coat of 476s. I am actually getting compliments.

I did my E-150 using clay, paint cleaner, polish, Turtle Wax Platinum, and then finished it off about a week later with 476s. In hindsight I would use clay, Color-x ,and 476s and save hours and have the same or better results. JMO

When you apply the Color-x, do you put it on just as if you were applying a normal wax? Do you use back and forth strokes or circular application? Just wondering because I was thinking about using it, after a clay bar treatment, on a relatives car that has not had much attention to the finish.

I tried to go back and forth, but found myself doing circular motions as well. I read years ago that the best way to hand wax a car was to go back and forth instead of circular motions. This book is probably close to 25 years old by now, and I'm no expert on the topic, so things might have changed. The book was written by a guy that judged cars at shows and was a professional detailer doing high end show cars or something like that.

Anyway honestly it really seems like it wouldn't matter with the Color-X, the product is very easy to use and very forgiving. I was impressed with the results. I have a 3 car fleet, my Jeep and E-150 are pampered, the Aerostar is used hard. I take good care of it, but it is not treated like the other two. The Color-X made it look the best it's looked in years. The Collonite on top was the icing on the cake.

Essentially they are, the Megs is (i think) a tad more powerful. I got a really good deal on a used (but looks brand new) Meguairs G110 so I got it as a back up

What pad combo do you use with the PC? Applying and removing?
