So here is the latest. 5100 miles on it.

Any thoughts??

Looks good. I've seen quite a few good UOA's with RP over the last year or two. I like the Tbn retention of their oils. Some start out at 12, which is on par with Amsoil. API SL though.

Fuel is high. Tbn still decent. Probably good to drain @ 5k mile intervals.

No, this is the second fill. M1 0W40 before that.

Engine is stock, not chipped.

Thanks. They mentioned fuel but thought it was okay. Also said to watch the copper.

I was very interested to see how this one came out. First RP UOA I've done. I'm pretty happy with it.

Maybe do a fuel injector cleaner and see if an uneven spray is making it put more fuel in since it doesn't burn as efficiently? Or do you make a lot of short trips?

Mostly short trips. 5/week < 10 miles, 1/week ~50 miles, 1/every 2 weeks ~200 miles. Mileage wise more highway miles but the number of trips is definitely skewed to the shorter end.

I was hoping for that.

Have you tried it in yours? What are you running? I'd love to take this car to 300K+. Not sure the transmission (09A) is up to it or not but if it is, I'm in.

I'm under the impression these 1.8Ts are kinda hard on oil. Don't know if that's real or just my perception but...

I was a little worried the metal counts might be high. Even RPs site says to run a couple cycles before doing a UOA to let the metal count settle. I did one previously, so....

I know there are RP lovers and RP haters here but I'm pretty happy with it.

Hope this UOA is helpful to anyone with a similar config.

I have not tried RP in mine -- I just switched over to synthetic at close to the 60,000 mark. With 90K on her now, the last 30K have seen either Syntec 5w-40 or GC. I've decided to run just the 5w-40 in her from now on.

Here's my UOA after about 4,100 miles:

I think these engine's are indeed hard on oil, shearing them down pretty quickly. My viscosity was about 12.3 after 4,100 miles so yours looks real good.

But, pretty much every UOA for a 1.8 I've seen shows some shear so I don't worry about it too much. Being at or above 11.5 after 5,000 is about the best you can hope for, mostly.

I'm not sure what to say about the wear metals, other than copper you are fine, certainly. I wouldn't lose sleep over this report.

Finally, I have no real opinion on RP one way or the other. It looks like it is working for you. A lot of people here seem not to care for Syntec but it works for me, you know?

I have seen more leaking VW 1.8T turbos than I can count, so I think they may be inherently weak, and therefore contribute to high copper.

Nothing is going to break the bank there, so to speak. I think your copper would go down a good clip if the fuel condition could be contained. That may not be possible given the service the engine sees. I'm unsure of the mechanism that ties the two together but I've observed too many relationships between fuel and copper. It may also aggravate other metals, but copper seems to be a constant in the mix. I'm talking non-DI engines. They a YMMV scene.

The Syntec? I think that's a good choice. It's the dealer's choice IIRC.

I'm not. Actually I'm pretty happy with it. Reading some threads around here I was a touch worried. Now I'm glad I tried it.

I do, and you are completely right. I guess the best we can do is find something WE are happy with, eh? I know mine really seems to like this RP.

I noticed the FP was a little low but where would you expect the TBN to be? I thought that was okay, actually.

Leaking? Oil? Or boost? Or?

Really? No idea why that would be? I chalked the fuel up to the oil not being fully hot this change. I usually do but this time it just didn't work out. We'll see how these look in a couple more OCIs...

Thanks everyone.

I did. It was the first UOA I'd run on this oil and I really had no idea where it would land. I agree it could probably have handled 7K easily. D__n my OCD! ;-) Next time I'll leave it in longer (yeah, right.... 'Sir, put the bottle of oil down and step AWAY from the vehicle' ;-)
