As promised, here is my Blackstone report. Hand typed, don't know how to post the actual report.

Specifics:

Car - 2008 Cadillac CTS with the Direct Inj. 3.6 V6
Miles on car - 9,483
Miles on Oil - 6,544
Oil used - Mobil 1 5W/30 (regular, not EP)
Oil filter - STP (cartridge type)
Oil life monitor reported 54% life left.

Here are Blackstone's Comments:

Don't be alarmed by the highlighted numbers in the first sample from your CTS. The excess
wear is due to new parts breaking-in, while silicon is from sand-casted parts and sealers used when
assembling your engine. Both should improve with subsequent oil changes. Universal averages are based
on an oil run of ~4,500 miles. The TBN read 3.5 so you still had some active additive left. 1.0 is low. We
don't suggest running your oil much more than 6K miles until wear looks better, as excess wear metals
make oil abrasive. Everything should look better next time.

Here are the numbers: (aluminum, iron, copper and silicon were highlighted)

aluminum - 7
chromium - 1
iron - 52
copper - 28
lead -2
tin - 0
moly - 100
nickel - 0
manganese - 4
silver - 0
titanium - 0
potassium - 3
boron - 47
silicon - 26
sodium - 8
calcium - 2173
magnesium - 15
phosphorus - 645
zinc - 907
barium - 0

SUS Viscosity @210F degrees=56.6 (should be 55-62)
cSt Viscosity @100C degrees=9.23 (should be 8.8-11.1)
Flashpoint = 385 (should be 365+)
fuel % = 0.5 (should be less than 2.0)
antifreeze = 0 (should be 0)
water = 0 (should be 0)
insolubles = 0.3 (should be less thsn 0.6)

TBN = 3.5 (1.0 is too low)

Based on this report, I will run this oil between 5-6000 miles to dump more break in residue out and run another UOA. I've always ran 5-6k mile oil change intervals but I am really trying to extend my runs as hard as it sometimes is for me! I think my best plan would be 7500 miles max. The OLM would have me going nearly 13,000 miles. Too far for me.

I think this is the first di engine uoa that I have seen without a huge amount of fuel or totally thrashed oil.

Watch out, even though it is breaking in, the anti-Mobil crowd will be after you soon!

I know! Plus I posted over at the current Mobil thread that I had posted this UOA. I've probably just got a few hours to live! Nice knowing you all!

The iron is high because it's breaking in. But it's 8ppm too high because you have Mobil1 in there. HA!

For the first 2 or 3 oil changes, I wouldn't trust the OLM either. I think its a good report with an engine thats just breakin' in!

The highest OCI's I would go is 5k if you plan on keeping it a long time. Get those abrasives out!

So true. It bothers me that so many new cars are out there running an average of 9-10k miles on the factory fill! I always run the factory fill short so I can dump the break in debris out.

In all of our paranoia, think of it in reverse. Look at how many vehicles DO go 10k on their break-in oils, and still run just fine for 150-200k.

I concur with everybody else. No more than 5k until around 15k, or whenever your UOAs show the metals trending down.
