I haven't read anything in this forum about the differences in lower unit gear oils.

Here is a link to an article that was published last month in Bass and Walleye Boats Magazine where they tested gear oil with and without water contamination to see how they performed.

The test results sure surprised me, especially how some oils performed great in one test and were dead last in another.

It is interesting reading and thought I'd share it with the forum.

Even though you can't read the graphs you can see the colors. Notable is an oil that tops in one test may be on the low side in another. Which IMO, makes the test more believable. When an oil marketeer shows off a bunch of graphs where they are at the top in every test category red flags should go up.
