Another UOA... Na and K appeared after many UOA's with 0's, hopefully it's either noise or something left over from the previous fills (Amsoil AFF, Rotella 15W40).

That should read today's date, 25-JULY-2008. All of the other information is correct.

Here's a question: Do engines that use roller/ball bearings or engines that use plain bearings throw higher wear metal numbers ?

What kind of rpms does your engine run at on average ? Doesn't look too bad for a small engine that likely runs at high rpms.

The RPM's are anywhere from 6K to 10K, with a lot of cruising at around 7K to 8.5K; that and no oil filter likely lead to the UOA results... I wonder how long the engine is going to last...

With an engine that beats that hard on oil, I'd be inclined to run some kind of straight-weight...maybe even a 40-weight HDEO...W-M sells SJ-rated, straight 30 and 40 weight HDEO for $7.58/4-liter jug. With 500 - 1,000 km oil changes, this would be the economical route to go....

The oil is still in the 30 weight range (11.8cst), so I can't see the advantage of going to a single grade 30wt. With the 10w30 he at least has the better flow on cold starts.

I wouldn't think 'cold starts' are an issue on a bike...if its that cold that you have to worry about 'cold starting', its probably too cold to ride!

I ride in teeth chattering cold, ie, teeth chattering even before getting on the bike..lol.

My bike (Honda XR650L) will suffer from reduced oil flow to the head on cold start up if the correct viscosity isn't used. The oil line running from the case to the head (cam and lifters) is quite narrow. The engine is a single air cooled cylinder with a dry sump.

In the OP's bike, better flow at start up, whether cold or not, is still the best situation in any case.
