Loc: Stewartstown PA Honda Accord 04 2.4 engine, manual transmission. Car has 87,600 K on it, Neo 5w30 oil has 13,900 miles-8 months of service, and drained oil to try Amsoil 0w20 for the winter. Numbers on the left are from 13,900 sample (Blackstone Lab). Numbers in the middle are from sample taken at 11,300 miles (Polaris Lab). Numbers on the right in parentheses are from virgin sample (Blackstone Lab). I added 1.6 quarts of oil during the 13,900 miles. The last 10 ounces I added to the oil consisted of 8 ounces of NEO 0W5 oil, and 2 ounces of Motul 0w30 which brought down the viscosity a little bit.

""I am still amazed a street oil is allowed to have Pb as an additive........."'

Do not know about API approvals for Pb but ZDDP is a hazardoius sunstance and probably as bad or toxic as Pb nathenate so either are not nice.

Onto the catalyst!

The high saturation of Pb creates an "osmotic Pb static pressure differential" ..preventing any Pb liberation from the bearing surfaces. It's just too crowded in the oil bath. Resident Pb just has nowhere to go.
