Thank you Peter, Nope, I never had a previous injury to the shoulder or ever complained about it in my 26 years.. Just everything else had been operated on which should be significant in the fact the I've had a ton of surgeries but the shoulder was n

I've never serviced this gearbox. My current trimmer is 3 years old, i think, and it's just a modular Toro from Lowes. If I had a high dollar one (Husqvarna or Stihl), I'd probably look into it to keep it forever, but for a throwaway that will last

I have not noticed C3PO (or whatever he calls himself now) posting for quite a while now, ever since that botched attempt to distort what somebody else had posted. He seems to be laying low. It seems to me that a lot of the people who cause problems

Does anyone lube these? I'm talking about the aluminum housing at the bottom of the shaft on a straight shaft trimmer. I have two Ryobi and a Honda and I see no mention of this in the manuals. They get awfully hot so I was thinking of either packing

Once per year and inexpensive oil that meets required spec. Probably lots of junk in your oil due to short trips/cold engine.

+1 to Rand and if you want to spend an extra few bucks amsoil Z-Rod is a very good choice as well. Probably one I would use if I needed to. Cheaper option as well is QS Defy and Delo LE 30w which I use in my small engines.

I prefer SOPUS to ExxonMobil. Not saying EM makes bad oils, I just prefer SOPUS as a company.

Definitely a UOA. I'd be concerned about leaving it in for a whole year with such short trips, but a UOA will let you know if there is a lot of water in there.

Update: A different WM exchanged it, no questions asked. My only cost was new felt washers and some anti-corrosion stuff for the terminals. Think that is my trip to WM for this year.

IF he drove it 20-30miles once a week in winter It would be good. With that little driving it might be toast from excessive condensation in the winter. Oil temp is not water temp. Esp. in winter the oil takes quite abit of driving to get upto temp.
