I was told this was an offshoot of BFGoodrich, is this true?

If it is an offshhot of BFG, then it is owned by Michelin, as Michelin owns BFG and Uniroyal... unless it was spun off before the Michelin acquisition.

I think you will find they are a tire distributor and not connected to any particular tire manufacturer - except to say they will have their favorite.
