I have 2004 Cadillac cts 3.6L V6 71k any oil recommendations? The filler cap is marked with Mobile1 5w-30. I purchased the vehicle used I so have no way of knowing what ‘synthetic or conventional” oil used prior to. I am not sold on mobile1 the owners manual just states the GM oil standard and that synthetic is not mandatory.

Thanks in advanced

Well, M1 5W30 would work well in it but so will othr's. Do you have prefference to dino or synthetic? Do you have a preference for any given viscosity? What type of OCI are you looking for?PP would work good as well. I think I would run M1 0W40 in it year round with twice a year oil changes.

Cadillac requires a GM4718M approved oil and the owners manual states that not all "syn" oils meet this spec.

It is a 2004 so warranty is probably out the window by now. On top of that you have no idea what the previous owner ran for all we know it was a lease turn in and the previous owner took it to Jiffy Lube once a year if it needed it or not! GM4718M is not a very tough spec to meet even if an oil has not paid to be tested to meet that spec.! I am preety sure Amsoil,Redline,Motul,Penrite,Fuch's, Synergen and a lot of other top notch oils have not paid or tested to meet those spec.'s! I also did not think that the V6 had to meet that I thought it was only the CTS-V!M1 0W40 is the best oil that M1 has on market as long as the vechile in question does not need an oil with super high hths. So anything that GM recomends M1 5W30 for M1 0W40 will do even better in.

Why the whole drain plug and not just the seal?
