Here are my two Blackstones for my 06 F250 6.0. The first column is with Amsoil Series 9000 5W-30 with an Amsoil By-pass and the second column is with stock Motorcraft 15W-40 prior to the bypass. Both are 5000 mile samples with 31720 and 24800 on the odometer respectively. I am a little worried on how the Amsoil sheared down, should I be? I never gets cold where I live.

Yeah that is some very serious shear. I wonder how much fuel is really in the oil? I say for sure get a sample to Terry to get a proper fuel read. Wear metals look OK, but Tin going up is not a good thing. I have a tough time recommending Series 3000 HDD here. Go with the ACD 10W-30 IF you want a 30 - but in So Cal - why? Just use Amsoil AME 15W-40.

Both are in line with what I have seen on my 6.0 psd. Last winter I tried some Motorcraft 0w30 (ci-4) for the winter and it sheered down to 56.4 as well. Right now I run 5w40 and it sheers down to 64~65. The hpop is very hard on oil in these engines. That is why most people will not go past 5,000 miles even with synthetic oil.

All of your metal wear numbers are below normal for diesel engines. If you have not dumped your oil, I would run it out to 7,500 miles and send a sample to Terry or OAI/Amsoil. I would also get Amsoils take on the sheering.

Your engine has very low miles. Heck, its not fully broken in as far as I am concerned. The fuel dilution numbers need to be run again. I would like to see a TBN, OXID, NITR Tests run. What is your total with bypass filter OCI quart count?

When my amsoil dealer and I changed the oil and installed the oil by-pass, the truck took 4 gallons exactly of 5W-30. In the comments field, Blackstone stated "the viscosity was low, bit it wasn't due to any excess fuel dilution so we are not worried about it. The 6.0L Power Stroke tends to shear down the viscosity of oil, so this is a very common occurrence. Suggest leaving this oil in use now and check back in 3000-3500 miles." I just ordered some Schaeffer 5w-40 due to postive posts with my engine. Thanks to everyone for all the information. Great site.
