Say you had 3 qts of GC for a car that needs 4 qts. If you couldn't find any more GC, what would you buy from one of the chain stores for that last quart?

I vote for Mobil 1 10W30 High Mileage. It is still an API SL oil like GC, and is stated to be a little thicker than regular M1, just like GC.

I'll be faced with same dilemma some time next year with my odd count of GC.

I plan on mixing with another readily available PAO like M1 0W-40 or some other BMW LL-01 approved PAO like Pentosin or ELF Excellium Full Tech 0W-30. Or possibly blend with a quality Group III.

Thanks for the responses, guys.

I had been leaning toward the BMW 5w-30 as well.

Anyone know anything about Motul X-Max 5w-30 (formerly Motul BMW-Specific LL-01)? I have some of that left over from a recent change in my car. If the chemistries are similar and compatible, I may either give that to my brother for use with the 3 qts of GC or use the GC as make-up oil in my car...

I would use Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic 5w30. It has the
same ratings as GC and BMW oil.
