product TW25B

like mcp's fp-10, their website is good, it provides msds and astm data.

product info: weapons grade all synthetic solvent free grease

astm data doesn't do much for me, if someone else can pull anything worthwhile from it making it a good or bad product then by all means say so.

msds lists the following:
mixture of synthetic oils (esters) and highly refined mineral oils;
calcium sulfonate/carboxylate complex: mixture in highly refined mineral oil.
phosphate ester: < 5mg/m^3
flash point/ autoignition = 475 F
specific gravity: 1.29

calcium sulfonate is a grease thickener, it has good EP properties and is more expensive to make than the other greases, lithium for example. But calcium sulfonate greases have been around for a long time, nothing new. In fact, pennzoil marine grease is the same thing.

So, this begs the question, are you getting anything superior in TW25B, for the price, that you would get from a larger tube of less expensive grease?

TW25b says they use synthetic oils, but are they really needed? And, like with the all the lies about synthetic oils today, how much "real" synthetic oil is in TW25b, because they also say highly refined mineral oil blended in?
Would you be able to use pennzoil grease with no difference in performance?

TW25B is generally recognized as the best firearm grease available. Though I personally am not a fan of grease on guns.

It is technically a blend. Mineral oil and esters. The thickener is actually PTFE (I believe sub-micron), which can be seen in the decomposition products and Unusual fire and explosion areas on the MSDS. It is also a creamy/semi-translucent light grease.

I believe the calcium sulfonate/carboxylate complex is actually anti-wear and corrosion inhibitor. As I recall, the phosphate ester was also AW, but it has been a while since I have looked into it.

It is very expensive. Too expensive in my mind. I only use oil. IMHO, typical NGLI #2 grease is WAY to thick for guns. That stuff is designed to hold up 4000lbs.+ cars on tiny little bearing contact points. No need on a gun.

I've been using it too on my SIGs (rails and outside of barrel). It seemed that plain oil wasn't doing enough for a steel slide on an aluminum frame (even with anodizing). For a steel slide on a steel frame, I would probably just use oil

For a grease I use 'Gunslik' I think it's called. It's a graphite paste. I'd consider trying M1 grease if needed in volume.

I just bought a bottle of Permatex UltraSlick Engine Assembly Lube. I'm going to do a year test on it with one of my guns. Probably my Colt Commander
