After reading some suggestions about Microfiber towels, I did a little research. Cotton cannot be turned into a microfiber. They generally are Polyester. Here is a link to a definition of Microfiber.

I found other links to which also state that they are generally 80% polyester and 20% polyamide. They seem to imply that the towel needs to be damp before it can be very absorbant (which matches my experience).
Sounds like those high end "all cotton" microfiber towels are not really Microfiber after all?!?! Of course, they can still be great towels, but they are not Microfiber.
