Let's say you drive a 4WD vehicle with full-time 4WD.

You have 6/32" remaining on your tires, front and rear. (Example purposes)

You get a non-repairable flat on a single tire. Nail hits the sidewall, you're screwed.

What's the correct way to correct this?

A. One new tire?
B. Two new tires in the rear?
C. Two new tires in the front?
D. Four new tires?

TIA.

A. One used tire of the correct circumference.
B. Four new tires.
C. Find a shop with a "tire lathe" and have a new tire turned to the correct circumference.

It depends on the particular AWD system. Some have smaller tolerances than others. For example, torsen allows a max difference in tread of 5/32", IIRC.

If you're outside of this tolerance, I'd get one tire and have it shaved to the depth of the other 3.
