Walmart stocks a bottle of Fellows oil for the shredder but $6 for about 6 oz. No way I'm paying that much to deal with my junk mail. What is it and what's a good substitute ?

Looking for something that will lube the cutters and not spontaneously combust with the shredded paper.

My Fellowes calls for a vegetable based oil, so I use PAM, which is Canola oil.

I spray a sheet of paper with PAM and simply run it through the shredder.

Don't use spray oil while the shredder is running. I did that once and a spark ignited the mix in the paper chamber. No real big deal but the explosion will take the hair off your hands.. And really wake you up in the morning!

I actually purchased some synthetic shredder oil for my Fellowes crosscutter when it was under warranty so as not to void such. Now I'm using up my four gallons of Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer which I got pre-BITOG in both my home shredder and the one where I work.

Seems to work fine so far.

The Fellowes crosscut shredders IMO are a good value and popular. Had mine for about 7 years now with no problems.

By all means get a crosscut shredder- the cheap strip-shred types are worthless.
